Who's Attending?
It's 10 days away...
Who is attending for sure? Who thinks they are probably or most likely attending? Who is thinking about it but still undecided? We are hoping to have somewhere between 100-150 varieties to taste. I will probably also try to bring my seed collection if possible for those looking for something not represented. There is very little duplication between my 2007 varieties and Remy's 2007 varieties--maybe just a few. Post if you are coming or thinking about it, and what you may be bringing. Grand Island is about 10-15 minutes from Niagara Falls or Buffalo, many can plan a vacation around this weekend, with tourist sites, casinos, nightlife, entertainment, attractions, factory outlet malls/shopping, great local food, etc. Rooms nearby are as low as around $100 for 2 nights stay if you want to make a Friday to Sunday weekend out of it... Thanks. Mark Last edited by korney19; August 29, 2007 at 10:58 AM. |

Hi Mark,
I'm planning on being there, unless some emergency comes up. I'm not sure how much I'll have ready by then, but most of my plants have fruit that is still ripening. So I guess I won't know until that day. Looking forward to getting to taste such a variety. Zana |

Great! Do you know if any others are coming from up your way? Julianna, Martha, TommyT, Anthony in Toronto, etc? I think Zabby will be too busy... to think... what's more important: Preparation for getting married in 2 weeks or a tomato tastefest? You know where I'll be! C'mon... how many pairs of shoes can a girl try on in a Saturday afternoon?!

Mark.....you sound like you like live dangerously....lol. Making cracks about a woman trying on accessories for her wedding is definitely living life on the edge.
As for Julianna haven't seen her online all summer. But if you see this J, pm/email me if you still want to do the Thelma and Louise. As for others in the Metro Toronto and west areas, I don't know any of the others. But I may bring somebody who's a total newbie to OP heirloom tomatoes that's also from Kitchener(about 60 miles/100km) west of Toronto. |

I just posted on the other board I'm really hoping to make it. If I can bring maters, it'll most likely be: red pear, wonder light (look like plum lemons ... are they? I got the seeds from Johnny's) and Amish Paste.
Or were you asking what kind of dishes we're bringing? Laugh. Um, still thinking about that. Oh, and your post reminds me, I need to pick up my kid's flower girl dress (they called me weeks ago) and find shoes for her. Just shopping for flower girl dress shoes, that's taking multiple trips! This is what my kid was like after trying on the 3rd dress during trip #1! We call this, "turning into a pumpkin" http://www.penguincentral.org/galler...up&cat=0&pos=8 |

Mark, Don't worry it won't be just me and you staring at each other.
Zana and anyone else, I already said this somewhere else, but don't worry about how much you have! Mark probably has enough for us all. There will probably be way too much food in general, but that is a good thing! Penguingardener, Your daughter absolutely is adorable! Remy

Zana, a woman has her whole life to prepare for her wedding! BUT there will only be ONE First Annual Buffalo-Niagara Tomato Tastefest/Party! You can never tell on weddings!
Remy, I invited Marcia & Patty from the Fireside event... plus some others at the Fireside Inn (contestants) talked about it with me but I told them it is somewhat private, to members of the Tomato groups/forums... so don't be surprised if some sign up here or there just to come. Matter of fact, my neighbor asked me about it today, said his sister was interested, she goes to all those kind of things. Also Jerry (my location #2 garden) and Ernie (my retired Buffalo fireman friend who has put in hundreds of hours into my yarden doing much of my dirty work that I can't do.) His wife thinks I'd try to poison her with tomatoes or something, so don't know if she will come. And maybe my best friend may come. All my other friends I'll have to cover for them, they won't be able to bring stuff with them--they may be on bikes. Only other invites would be the girls at Mints and The Sundowner......(was that Rob's idea?) and the Women's Beach Volleyball team. Also... I invited Sally Cunningham... I think we have to decide just how private this will be... Sally offered to advertise it for me on her TV/radio shows but I told her the situation & she said to contact her if things changed. Right now, I told her semi-private--open to those who hear about it on the tomato forums and contact us. |

Mark,
I trust you to invite friends, family, and other crazed tomato lovers you have met. "Only other invites would be the girls at Mints and The Sundowner......(was that Rob's idea?) and the Women's Beach Volleyball team." and "His wife thinks I'd try to poison her with tomatoes " You are too funny! Advertising though is not good because you just don't know who will show up. Being private property that is not good, not because of space, but because of people showing up for a free lunch, sue happy people, and other assorted weirdos. At least when people have a connection somehow, there is less chance of any problems. Remy

Bad timing
Drove from NY to Toronto a couple of weeks ago on business. Passed right by Niagara area I could have scheduled better and would have been great to be able to joint the party. dcarch

Whaaaaaaat? Darch, naughty naughty.
And you didn't contact some of us in the TO area??? We could've done an impromptu taste test....well at least some of the others could've, mine aren't ripe yet. Makes me want to try that "portable" greenhouse idea. It's not that bad a drive. Like Mark said, should be a walk in the park next time. LOL...but seriously I think the rest of the gang and I would love your input. |

It's an idea I will keep in mind. I ran out of time because I also had to get together with a few French relatives from Montreal. "Portable (Removable)" greenhouse idea is giving me such a problem this year . I am overwhelmed in rushing to learn to make sauce, salsa, frozen juice. They just would not stop making tomatoes since July 4th . Did managed to cross the border with lots of Black Cherries and Green Grape . Have fun. dcarch

Dcarch,
Too bad your trip was timed wrong! It would of been great to have you at the party. Maybe next year you can plan around it. Zana, I don't think Mark really needed any interpreting, because the women of the "Canadian Ballet" are tomatoes, and you know Mark knows tomatoes pretty well! Remy
