A Freak Named Poly

I am growing some indoor tomatoes this winter, and one of the varieties I decided to grow was Stakeless, just because I had the seed.. and have never grown it before. So.. I planted a couple, and the first to pop up this morning to my surprise, is a polycotyledon, and not just an extra cotyledon either..this one has 4!!

So folks, meet Poly, and try not to call her a freak. (She's sensitive)

On the same topic, I read somewhere that polar auxin transport is effected in these mutants and can change the leaf shapes, cause indeterminate flowering, and some weird physiological changes at different stages of the plant's life...So we will see if Poly gets any of these "unique" traits.

I just now realized that polycotyledon scans the same as 'Polly wanna cracker'...

what an odd looking seedling. I'd be sitting here wondering what I was growing if it were me, lol.... Is that typical of this variety?

Not that I've ever noticed before.

I've been growing Stakeless for more than 15 years.

Above is an excellent link from here at Tville talking about tri and quadcots with some excellent links telling about how it happens and what can happen with such abnormal seedlings.

It turns out that quite a few folks here have seen tricots as well as quadcots.

Thanks for that link Carolyn, never seen one before, so that will help.
I am thinking that she looks a lot like a palm tree at this point, maybe I should invest in a miniature beach towel and lounge chair to go under her! No true leaves yet, still waiting. Here's new pics.
