I have an old green coleman camp stove with the red gas tank that you pump up to pressurize. It uses "white-gas." Walmart sells Crown Camp Fuel.

I dont think the flash point is low enough but maybe I have no idea.
Years ago they used to sell what they called white gas and that is all it was. We used it in our Coleman lanterns. This same gas was used in pump up head lights. Now unleaded gas of any kind has additives in it. Totally amazes me how something like Coleman fuel that takes less time to make costs so much money. Worth |

I've only used the Coleman fuel in what we called white gas lanterns.
I watched some videos and read some sites about old Coleman camp stoves - all say to use Coleman fuel. Does your stove look like any of these? https://www.google.com/search?q=old+...h=547&dpr=1.25 Last edited by AlittleSalt; November 24, 2017 at 01:12 PM. |

Ya have to use white gas in those old stoves and lantens. Its a highly refined gasoline which is why its so expensive and white gas does not have additives (additives will clog/gum up the stove/lantern fuel lines which is why you can't use regular gasoline, and kerosene is even worse).
So use the mfr's recommended fuels for your camp stoves and lanterns or buy a kit to convert to propane. |

White gas was once sold at some gas stations at a fraction of the cost of Coleman fuel.
It was the original fuel Coleman lanterns used that and drip gas. We used to buy 5 gallons of it at a time in the old 5 gallon steel containers motor oil used to come in. Those were the days. |

american gas station (amoco) used to sell white gas in the 60's,it was unleaded gas.
Plumbers used it in their blowtorches before the switch to acetylene. |

Many ACE Hardware stores carry Coleman fuel, or the Crown equivalent, I have 13 stoves (singles and multiple burner ones as well as 50+ lanterns. I ALWAYS use the Coleman fuel or Crown. Regular unleaded gas (known as "RUG" to lantern & stove collectors) will gum up the little generator and not burn correctly.
Have fun with it. A gallon of the correct fuel will last you a L O N G time - much more than those propane bottles. 49 T&C |
