Default An unusual F2

Last summer I crossed a large striped saladette with an F2 selection from the great orange grape hybrid Zima. This winter the F1 was, as expected, a smallish red cherry. I transplanted 18 F2 progeny as part of a Wisconsin breeding nursery on May 22 and I was back to check on them June 27. This fruit was the earliest in the whole nursery and by far the largest fruited of the 18 F2 progeny - it also luckily got two doses of the gs allele. The size of this F2 fruit is at least as large as the larger fruited parent - unusual; and the largest fruited sergeant was also the earliest - also unusual. Taste is excellent, but so it was for each of the parents.
