Here are a few shots of pepper plants that have evaded the deer.
They looked like this before I fertilized them. The one picture with the dark green leaves is Habanero red. Then there is yellow mushroom and Fresno turning to red. Also bonus tomato shot. I cant say what Habanero red is like because something keeps eating them. The brown on the leaves is vinegar burn from last spring. Snip that colored pod and take it in the house before something besides you eats it!
Plants look pretty good.

I edited my last post but will say it here. The brown spots on the leaves are vinegar burn from last spring. The plants only got water just the other day. There was some sort of wilt going on and I just cut the water off so the ones that didn't get it wouldn't. I also removed all of the tomato plants so these now get more sun. These plants and the other ones I can protect in the winter from freezing. |

Ouch, that is a lot to lose, a whole tree plus the time invested. I've seen them nibble branches down but not crack a tree. Maybe it had some internal damage and was weakened. How old was the tree. A cheap deer net is a good plan to keep em away. I just received an order form Stark Bros during their sale. Too hot to plant now so they are in buckets in the shade. What varieties are you growing?

If it is a huge crack and you will be there long term consider replacing the tree in fall. If disease doesn't get it you might be okay, but check if a new leader starts at a good angle.

I just went and chopped the top off and will see what happens.
I am sure it is one deer doing this as I can tell them apart. She wont be around next year. I think what happened is something scared her and she ran over the tree. But she has been eating on them and everything else. |

Funny you should mention it. I just posted a hot berry jam recipe in the Cheap Eaten thread.

I think I see spider mites on your tomatoes. Just saying. Also some sort of deficiency, maybe iron or manganese? Is your soil pH too high?
