Default Anybody tried making a wood container/planter?

Was curious to see if anyone has tried making a container out of wood. Obviously these wouldn't last forever and would require more watering vs plastic containers with a reservoir. From what I have researched I plan on making a simple box with legs out of cedar. It's not going to sit high off the ground, just a few inches so it's not in direct contact with the ground and so it drains better. I plan on leaving it untreated and to put it together with galvanized screws.

Just curious on any experiences with wood containers/planters and what you have grown in them. I'm just going to be growing Egyptian onions in this one.
