I love garlic - my garlic collection
This is my favorite time in the garden - picking ripe tomatoes, finishing harvesting potatoes, and, most importantly, my garlics!
I have taken a lot of pictures of most of my garlic varieties that I grow every year, and posted them at TOMATObase - please come by and take a look, if you like drooling over garlic pictures as much as I do . http://t-garden.homeip.net/mwiki/ind...ategory:Garlic This year the garlic harvest was decent, but not great - the bulb sizes were generally smaller, with the exception of the Yee's collection, which always produces large cloves. But even the Yee's garlics produced less cloved per bulb. I have to figure out what was not ideal in the new garlic bed (over than the excessive rains we had in June and August). Here is one of the pictures to wet your appetite : Enjoy, Tania

That's the thing - I am not sure what this variety really is, but it is truly gorgeous garlic, and one of my favorites over the last 4 years. It does grow bulbils. I call it 'Yee's Purple Stripe', and it is likely a rocambole variety - You can find more info about this garlic at http://t-garden.homeip.net/mwiki/ind..._Purple_Stripe My other favorite and equally beautiful garlic is Yee's Russian (which could be 'Chesnok Red') - see http://t-garden.homeip.net/mwiki/ind...ee%27s_Russian. Here is the picture of Yee's Russian:

Hi Tania,
Interesting looking garlic would be nice to know more of their history. Do you by any chance save the bulbil heads? Any chance you might be Interested in trading for garlic varieties that you do not grow? Henry

I'd love to know more about the history of this garlic, but that was all I got from my friend Yee Chan, and she made extensive inquiries with the original growers... I'd love to trade some garlic (bulbils preferably) - I have bulbils for these varieties available (see the list at http://t-garden.homeip.net/mwiki/ind...Garlic_Bulbils). I can also trade cloves/bulbs of Inchelium Red, Lorz Italian, Yee's Sweet, and Yee's Pale Large Hardneck (see http://t-garden.homeip.net/mwiki/ind.../Inchelium_Red, http://t-garden.homeip.net/mwiki/index.php/Lorz_Italian, http://t-garden.homeip.net/mwiki/index.php/Yee%27s_Sweet, http://t-garden.homeip.net/mwiki/ind...Large_Hardneck) Most of them I am sure you already have, but there may be a few you may not. Please PM me if interested. Cheers, Tania

Tania,
I am very much interested as I Pm-ed you before but we just get the lawn rotavated (we are no longer staying in the old house), it will get problems with the soil parasites (found lots of grubs, wireworms and most possibly also nematodas). What a dilemma for me !!! |
