I've lost them all...

All my peppers, all my eggplant seedlings, with 3 exceptions, one yellow bell, one pepperocini and one black beauty eggplant.

I had built a coldframe out of scrap lumber and plastic I had here. It looked good, seemed like it should be successfull... forcast was for no lower than 3C. I guess the plastic wasn't thick enough, the temp got down to freezing and that, my friends, was that. They're gone.

*sigh*... too late to start fresh again with our short growing season, so now I'm trying to see if anyone else has seedlings in the area and as a last resort I'll go to the garden center.

At least my tomatoes are all still ok, and growing well in the basement!

Sorry Cin, I haven't seen your post 'til now - I've been busy with (paid) work & (unpaid i.e. yard) work.
I have about 10 varieties of sweet & hot peppers. Will get a PM off to you.

Ciao Cindy,

I'm not as close to you as Kim is, but I'm sure Duane will have several extra hot and sweet pepper plants. If you can get out our way, let us know, we'll set them aside for you.

an unheated greenhouse offers almost no protection against the cold. a cold frame offers none.

I always bring my plants indoors every night. it helps them to grow if the roots are warm all night. I have done experiments.

if the night will be real warm. say 55 or better I will probably leave them outdoors. but that never happens.

for biological process to take place. ie for plants to grow. most need a minimum of 55 F.

Never, never ever leave your seedlings outdoors below 40 F that is harmful to the plants. below 50 is not good for them.

Plants like it at about 75 F.
