My strange tomato plants

I grew 2 types of tomato's seed this year, 1 was Ferry-Morse Supersweet 100 VF, hybrid,and the 2nd was Burpee Big mama Hybrid, i got the plants mixed up early. So i raised them all, I have some plants which have huge bottom leafs only, and small 8 inch high. The pictures show 3 different plants, they are 6 weeks old, i have 6 in dirt, and 6 in pots. They look different, will not grow up now? 1 shot, did grow up but looked like no tomato plant i have seen, what should i do with this?

Note, there is only 1 picture there, of a normal looking plant.
(Stem is not very stocky, it could use a little more potassium
maybe. You could mix some molasses into the water that you
give it.)

What do you find strange about the plant in the picture?

Plants can fail to grow beyond the first set of leaves for
genetic reasons or for physical reasons (growing tip chewed
off by bugs, or attacked by disease, etc).

I agree dice that looks like a normal plant could not determine why it was thought to look strange. More details please.

the stems are small and only 5 stems now, very open plant.My others i buy a have , a ton of stems.

If it was me, I'd not worry about it. They will start sending out shoots along the stems and start filling in. What size pot do you have that in?

the pot is the smallest one, I will put it in a bigger one this weekend 5 gal pot. i think this is a suppersweet 100 vf hybrid plant, the tomatoes are small and 7 -10 besides each others. the shots of this have maybe have all 7-10 tomatoes in your hand. my others have 1 -3 everywhere. Have anyone seen how this grow

I grew sweet 100 last year. It was a fairly delicate looking plant for me, not very bushy, not a lot of leaves, it was later than the other cherry that I grew, but it did produce 5-10 tomatoes per truss regularly once it got going.

Thanks i was worried that it was weak with branches. I have 5-8 plants of them

It does look like a hybrid cherry tomato. The way it has
stretched out like that, it reminds me of a tomato that has
been growing indoors in a sunny window. Maybe it needs
a position with a little more sunlight over the day.

You could try a spray feeding with a blossom booster if you
have some. That generally induces an increase in both side
shoot and flower development. (This can get out of hand,
though, with side shoots of side shoots of side shoots and
tiny little leaves everywhere, so one does not want to overdo
it.)

I, like the others, see one picture of a normal looking plant. Perhaps it is a bit leggy (strectched out). If that's the case I'd say it might be a little light starved, but other than that it looks fine to me. It should start sending out suckers soon. I don't pinch suckers on a SuperSweet 100. It gets tall enough without helping it.

I have grown SuperSweet 100 for many years.

You probably won't get exactly what is in the picture or what you're hoping to get because you won't be able to get that many ripe at once without at least some of them being split. That's a bit of a joke to those of us who have grown them. They do like to split. But, I grow them every year because I like them so I'm willing to live with the splitting issue. I've gotten some pretty big trusses, but none as large as they depict.

Getting it into a larger container, even larger than 5 gal. is IMHO a very good idea. Well grown SuperSweet 100 plants can get quite large.

I'm including some pictures of SuperSweet 100 plants from years past to illustrate some of the points I made. I haven't taken an individual picture of this year's plant. I'll try to remember to do so and if I do I'll post it.

I believe what you have there is Big Mama, Filmnet.
That be the way they are, as I have raised them before
and they are branchy like that.
I have replaced said this year wth San Pablo and it is loaded (with immatures).
I actually bought a Bonnie Plant this year – Bush Early Girl for a container and it is the most loaded.
Hazelfield Farm – well it’s growing like a volunteer – 6ft and rising.

That's the experience I've had with Sweet 100 too. The plant looked delicate but there were at least 10-15 tomatoes per truss. Mine did look a lot like the second picture you posted but the ripe ones were very prone to splitting.

So its either a Big Mama or Suppersweet 100, funny, i have given out 6 of these plants to friends to grow,. I told them i dont know which plant you got, so the first to get tomatoes and i can see the leaves. And then be able to see what plant we have, will get a prize.
