Clematis in Bloom

This plant is in its 3rd year and this is the first time it has had a good bloom. I had a great one at my old house and now I have a good one finally at my new house (we are going on 5 years...so not so new anymore)!!!

I had one that looked like that. This year it did not grow. I assumed
that some of the severe weather last winter got it finally (it was
in a container, a little exposed, probably 10 years old or so).

I will be pleasantly surprised if it emerges next year from the
bark around the bottom of a dogwood tree, which is where I
dumped out its container.

Very beautiful purple flowers. What is the name of the clematis? I have been lucky here in Alaska with a couple of clematis coming back each year. They are planted next to the poured concrete basement and I suspect they receive a tiny bit of warmth from that in the winter. I would like to plant one like yours.

I can't remember the variety...sorry.

The picture doesn't to it justice. It is absolutely covered in flowers this year. Absolutely beautiful.

After some online image searching, it appears to be the variety Jackmanii.

Very nice! We have a Nelly Moser that was at it's peak about 2 weeks ago.

The stem appears so brittle on ours and I always think there is no way it will bloom. Sure enough, every year it does.
