That's another one I want to grow because Camo holds it in high regard and we all know from his posts that he knows what he's doing !

I have had good luck with it in North San Diego County. It is on the always grow list.

Default Comparison

I have some of these seeds but have not tried them yet, how do they compare to Sudduth's variety?

Howdy VC Scott! Good looking tomato. Believe it or not, I grew up in Pauma Valley, way before the casino meant anyone actually knew where it was.

This is my first year growing them. They have been among the last to produce flowers and there are only about three tiny tomatoes, total, on two plants, so far.

Hopefully, the plants will stay alive long enough to set more and ripen them but with the rain this year, that may be iffy.

Are they usually really late to produce flowers? If so, I may have to try for something that is a little earlier.

I have some Sudduth seed, but have never grown Sudduth. Next year I will do a test and plan them side by side for comparison.

For me they are among the first full size tomatoes to mature. This year Stupice, Pineapple, Cherokee Purple and Sibirskiy Skorospelyi beat Cowlicks to maturity. Cowlicks has matured faster than Big Beef, Black Krim, Purple Calabash, Big Rainbow, San Marzano, JD's Special C Tex, German Red Strawberry and KBX.

Thanks VCscott! Weird, then. I had already harvested one of my Cherokee purples before Cowlick's even set a fruit! My KBX was late, too, but is at least a couple of weeks before this Cowlick's.

I have to give some props to TVille member Carol Knapp who supplied the seeds for Cowlicks through her business Knapps Fresh Vegies. I have never seen such large seeds. Germination rate is super and all of the plants have been vigorous. Carol is better known here as WI-Sunflower.

Ella, the dear wife used the pictured cowlicks before I could get a picture, but there are many more coming and I will get you a picture.

To me the taste is exactly what a tomato should be. Some might like a bit more acid, but for me its perfect.
