I got a lot done in the tomato/eggplant/pepper beds over the weekend. I've left a few tomato plants and I think I can get these to last until Oct. 1 or 15. I know all the peppers and eggplant will go until frost. I had so many peppers in there I couldn't even see! They'd grown so tall to try to get some light, and then flopped over, I couldn't tell what was in there. Now everything is supported and is getting full sun again.
I picked the last of my field peas and lima beans this morning. I'll pull those and my squash out later this week and start in on fall veggies.

Ladies, last year I was picking Carbon after we were hit with hurricane Sandy (October 31). It survived while the siding on the house was partially pulled. I am hoping for a quiet fall and tomato picking until November.

Yes, a lot will depend on tropical storms or hurricanes here, as well. We are almost at the peak of the season!

might be my last batch of tomatoes this season...plants are just about done. not bad garden...got around 300 lbs of tomatoes and over 30 lbs of peppers thus far. peppers will continue until around thanksgiving...but the rest is about done and fall garden will be planted, while nice...not as exciting as tomatoes!
pictured is about 13 lbs of tomatoes and 8 lbs of peppers... |

i like the thought of that! i have enjoyed canning this season, when we lose power for a storm...its generally a week or more. this time, i wont lose much at all in the form of veggies from the garden that were frozen!
