Northern California Tomato Tasting 2014?
I'm interested in putting together a Northern California Tomato Tasting for 2014. All details are still open to discussion, but tentatively I'd reserve an appropriately sized picnic area in Tilden Park (in the hills above Berkeley) for a Saturday or Sunday in the end of August or beginning of September.
Would there be interest in this? Am I stepping on someone else's toes? |

I would try to attend. We haven't had a local tasting in the past couple years.

I would also try to make the trek up north. Just let me know when and where.

Since there doesn't seem to be another one scheduled, and there is at least some interest, I'll plan to go ahead with it.
Next step would be picking a date. I've got some conflicts for the last two weeks of August, so need to avoid them. That leaves: August 9 or 10: I like that it's sooner, but maybe too early for some people and varieties? Sept 30 or 31: Labor Day. Does this make it more or less likely that people will come? Sept 6 or 7: Longer to wait, and possibly too late for prime tomato tasting? And would you prefer a Saturday or a Sunday? Let's discuss, and I'll plan to reserve a spot in a week or so. |

I prefer Sept 6 or 7 but most days would work.
I prefer Saturday or Sunday late afternoon/evening. Thanks for doing this. |

I went ahead and reserved a site in Tilden Park for Saturday August 9. We have a picnic area for 35 for the entire day. I need to be there by 10:30 am to "claim" it, but the event can start whenever we want. If 30 days before the event it seems like we'll have more people, I can bump up to a larger site (depending on availability). If it's only a handful, I'll cancel the reservation and host it at home. They are going to send me some forms to fill out and return. I'll start a new thread to announce the date when I've done so.
