it's been a month. Based off of my neglect I now out of 7 have three real strong growers, actually I lost two too damping off, and another one turned out to be a bucket head, and I suck at removing those. and one, though it did sprout up the fastest it was in all a really weak grower..
I have them in 4" pots as of two weeks ago. and I'll be moving them to gallon pots by the beginning of the week after next. I'll update with pics later. |

Weird Main Stem -
I came to the conclusion that the potato leaf that showed up is a misdirected seed. It appears to be a dwarf and I was starting a bunch of seeds from the Dwarf Project at the same time as these - several of which were PL.
I planted out the two of each cross that germinated. They both look healthy, but the Pineapple X CHP both have curly stems rather than straight stems. Attached is a photo of the worst of the two - the other shows about half as much curling of the stem as this one, although it is not straight. They are the only two I've seen that in this year. I had one dwarf that showed the same thing last year, only significantly more extreme than this one. It produced, although less than normal ones of the same variety. One is growing in an Earthtainer and this one in the photo is in the ground. I will try to train it up some twine. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do. Have you seen this before? The two CHP X Pineapple both look normal and healthy and are planted - 1 in an Earthtainer and the other in the ground. Last edited by dfollett; May 29, 2014 at 02:34 PM. Reason: Added information. |

Marc,
Between Pineapple X CHP and CHP X Pineapple, did you feel one had more cracking? |

There was cracking only on the earlier tomatoes of either type. The later fruit was unblemished.

So here's an example of CHP X Pineapple cross.
about 20"-24" tall right now with a lot of buds. Don't want to count my BLTs before they're melted but looks like there is a chance for solid production if the weather stays in our favor. Pine X CHP has a lot of buds right now but running a little behind in blooming. I'll post some pics of those when there's something to see. Let's see or hear about how all yours are doing. chpxpine2a.jpg chpxpine3a.jpg Last edited by marc_groleau; June 20, 2014 at 08:11 PM. |

i thought i had lost both of these for sure. one is possibly planted somewhere but i rarely keep up with the labels so i don't know for sure. i just stuck one in the ground underneath the greenhouse cover and flea beetles immediately swamped it. i put down a layer of hay on the greenhouse floor(stout system) and just stuck it in the dirt so it's not in tilled soil. it turned yellow and i figured it was a goner but at some point i fed it some Texas Tomato Food and i guess that kicked it in gear cause now it's two feet tall and looks nice! i tied it today for single stemming i hope i get some fruits off this one!~

F2 Growouts
I planted 7 plants (4 of CHPxPineapple and 3 of PineappleXCHP)
CHPxPineapple #1 Plant: Tom-Plnt-CHPxPine-Plnt-1.JPG The flowers look normal and fruit looks like it will be a beefsteak: Tom-Plnt-CHPxPine-Plnt-1-Flwr.JPG Tom-Plnt-CHPxPine-Plnt-1-Fruit.JPG CHPxPineapple #2 Plant: Tom-Plnt-CHPxPine-Plnt-2.JPG The initial flowers appeared to be fused flowers and even the later ones appear to be large: Tom-Plnt-CHPxPine-Plnt-2-Flwr-1.JPG Tom-Plnt-CHPxPine-Plnt-2-Flwr-2.JPG Tom-Plnt-CHPxPine-Plnt-2-Flwr-3.JPG CHPxPineapple #3 Plant: Tom-Plnt-CHPxPine-Plnt-3.JPG CHPxPineapple #4 Plant: Tom-Plnt-CHPxPine-Plnt-4.JPG PineappleXCHP #1 There is no PineappleXCHP #1 (When planted out the plant sulked for about 3 weeks and I finally removed it) PineappleXCHP #2 Plant: Tom-Plnt-PinexCHP-2.JPG PineappleXCHP #3 Plant: Tom-Plnt-PinexCHP-3.JPG Here's the surprise of the bunch! The fruit appears to be a large cherry or small saladette? Tom-Plnt-PinexCHP-3-Fruit.JPG |

Great pictures!
a few of my first flowers were super blooms too. That last one is a surprise. Looks like it's going to be pretty early too. When did you plant? |

Thanks!
Unfortunately, I didn't record exact planting dates. It would have been planted the first week of June. |

I know it has only been a week since my last photos, so I promise to wait until I have either at least 2 weeks, a ripe fruit or some other major development after these photos. I was out documenting some other things, I took photos of the CHP and pineapple f2s again:
CHPxPineapple Plant 1: CHPxPine_1_Plant.jpg A good set of fruit, obate shape. So far not very large: CHPxPine_1_Fruit_1.jpg I have one fruit that is a bit odd shaped (and I'm mentioning this as you'll see when I get to Plant 2), I think do to the fused blossom and not to other environmental factors: CHPxPine_1_Fruit_2.jpg CHPxPineapple Plant2: CHPxPine_2_Plant.jpg These first two plants as to growth and vigor seem about the same. I thing this plant shows more 'fusion' in the blossoms (at least in the first inflorescence) and it has led to more deformities in the fruit. All things being equal (production, flavor, color, etc -- I would not continue this one to F3. But those other factors need judged yet. CHPxPineapple Plant2 Fruit set: CHPxPine_2_Fruit_1.jpg Some of the distorted fruit: CHPxPine_2_Fruit_2.jpg CHPxPine_2_Fruit_3.jpg CHPxPineapple 3&4 remain behind but as the plants were significantly smaller when planted out, I'm loathe to judge them as 'later' plant3 (and fruit): CHPxPine_3_Plant.jpg CHPxPine_3_Fruit_1.jpg plant4 (and fruit): CHPxPine_4_Plant.jpg CHPxPine_4_Fruit_1.jpg PineapplexCHP Plant2 (I have not noted any fruit set yet): PinexCHP_2_Plant.jpg PineapplexCHP Plant3 (and it surprising saladette/lg cherry fruit): PinexCHP_3_Plant.jpg PinexCHP_3_Fruit_1.jpg |

I have five started for a fall garden and they are off to a good start. They are handling July in san antonio pretty good and one has started making blooms. I'm really excited to grow this one. Behind them is sophies choice and believe it or not the plants are loaded and setting fruit in upper 90's. I didn't think they had it in them. |
