Hey Barb,
The list is still there if anyone wants to zip over to the GW tomato ghost town and have a look. It's mighty quiet over there, tumbleweeds blowin' down the streets, sounds of the occasional footstep. The link is at the bottom. I'll put it here to save you a trip. Hi Group,
Here is a link to the latest post from Kristy on GW. http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/l...311032.html?28 She is looking into another location that might be free of charge on August 5th. I asked her to see if this location is available on August 26th. Since I am very local, I am flexible about the date and location. Please chime in with your thoughts. Cheers, Angelique |

I am glad kristy sent a reply. I need to get that girl over here.
I am flexible as to date and location. Let's see what she comes up with. A veggie tasting sounds intriguing.

Hi Barb,
Here is a link to the Harvest Day at the Fair Oaks Horticulture Center. I have never been to this event. However, I did put this on my calendar quite a while ago. Cheers, Angelique http://ucce.ucdavis.edu/files/fileli...2002/23744.pdf |

A,
That sounds like a fun event BUT I wouldn't want the tomato tasting to turn into something where we are hosting a tasting for the public in large numbers. That would be too hectic. I preferred the nice, leisurely pace we progressed at last year...especially getting the BLT's. This might be too busy a venue to have our gathering at. Let's see what kristy says. And I'm going to check with my sis to see if she has ever attended Harvest Day.

Hi Barb,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Actually, on GW, I asked Kristy if she could see if the Horticulture Center facilities are available for August 26th (for private use). Please let me know if Kristy replies to you. Thanks. Angelique |

aha, now I know why my ears have been itching.
I'll check into using the facilities at Fair Oaks park on August 26. Though I've never been to Harvest Day, I do imagine that your fears that we may be engulfed by lots of other people could be well founded. I'll ask about it anyway, to get an idea of how busy they expect it to be. Angelique, it looks like there are some nice parks in Roseville but I can't find the reservation prices on the City of Roseville's website. Do you want to call and find that out? Mission Oaks' facility rental was more affordable than the facilities available from Fair Oaks, or Carmichael park districts the last time I checked. Most importantly, the others offered reservations on an hour by hour basis rather than giving us the day, so we'd be put on a tighter time schedule for setting up, enjoying BLTs, etc. I'm open to going wherever is most convenient for everyone. If you do want to do Gibbons again, the park office is on the way to my daughter's school so I can drop in and fill out the forms pretty easily. What about a seedling exchange (and potluck?)in about mid April? Is there any interest in that? |

Hi Kristy,
Barb seemed to think that Roseville might be out of the way, since a few members are coming from the bay area (Landarc, GreenThumbGal, and Chilehuacle). A member from the GW CA forum suggested Pioneer Park in Davis. Here is a link. http://www.city.davis.ca.us/pcs/down...icnicareas.pdf Let me know if you still want me to check out parks in Roseville. I called them last Monday, but it was a holiday. I'll try again. Hopefully, we can reserve the Fair Oaks Hort. Center on 8/26 at a discounted rate. I have been by the adjacent library. The center seems fairly private. This is my first year that I have started from a seed. I started way too early (Jan. 10th). I don't think that my seedlings will be up to par with everyone's expectations if we meet in April. I would still love to meet up for a pot luck and learn from those of you that want to exchange. I will be out of town the weekend of April 8th and 22nd. The rest of my weekends in April are available. Thank you so much for your help. Cheers, Angelique |

Ooh, Davis would be nice, and slightly more central. I'd go for Pioneer Park. It does say that out of towners pay double for site rental. Would that be a problem?

Since I'm 'in town', if you decide to do it at Pioneer, I can take care of being the townie that rents, in case there is something about doubling for out-of-towners! There are many very nice parks here in Davis. Pioneer is one of the quieter ones.
I'd be interested in a seedling exchange, but mine are so big already! I'm hoping they'll last in their peat pots for 3-4 more weeks when I plan on putting them out, with milk jug at the ready... |

vermiit, thanks for the offer...I thought there was someone here from Davis.
kristy & angelique, you guys decide...I'm fine with Davis, such a lovely town. We took the tour of UCD in 2000 w/my son.

Hi all,
Re: The plant swap. Davis would be sooooo nice! I hope that works out. My brain says no but my taste buds say yes. I've agonized with cuts and adds for the last 2 weeks. I hopefully won’t take any (I’ll have to find space) but I can adopt out my backups\orphans if anyone is looking for a variety I have. If we have this event and you really, really want something & are counting on it, e-mail me in the next week or two and I’ll be sure I have one for you. I sowed most of them yesterday. Sakai Ichi is from ’90 and is really making me work hard at getting a plant. That’s the only one I’m pretty sure won’t be among my extras, but who knows. Been working on that one for about 2 weeks now. For the actual tasting the only suggestion I would have, which I think would save the most time, is have someone print out the tomato variety \ growers name tags in advance. They would all be on identical paper-stock of the various colors and could be snail-mailed and filled out in advance. That was very, very tedious to do on the day of.
