Elfin and Morning Sun still setting blossoms
Hi all ,
it has been a great hobby year and full of surprises and challenges ....... In this cool coastal climate I have 2 varieties that seem to be producing tomatoes and still flowering profusely October 11. outdoors ! the Winter cool rainy has come and they are in the shadow of a very large tree.. (so lower amount of direct sun ) lots of fruit and and lots of blossoms still ......!? Elfin and Morning Sun are not what I expected ...They are both hanging in .and producing .... I know this can't Last ..but what is going on !? Both types are like a "Grape " type ....Morning sun is yellow and elfin is red ... and both are RL . neither are of the "Siberian " cool noted reputation. Does anybody else have experience with other variety types that ...seem to hang on and still eek out production till the bitter end of the outdoor season ???

Sounds like you took good care of them if they're still healthy enough to be blossoming now. Have you had decent weather lately?
I was just out euthanizing my poor, blighty container plants and my indeterminate cherries only had a few blossoms. My Koralik cherry, which is a super-productive early determinate, was well past the second massive wave of blossoms and had tons of immature cherries. I felt bad cutting it down, but there's no way there would be time for them to ripen. I love those things. A little on the soft side, but early, tasty, and prolific. How did you like the Elfin and Morning Sun? Did they taste good? Morning Sun is on my to grow eventually list. Were they firm like a grape or just shaped like one? Did they last for a while after picking? Sorry for the third degree! |

I will say ,
both Varieties are some of the many surprises one gets when gardening ..... they both taste great ....and the yellow morning sun tasted so great ..... I went back and read the write up about it and it ... it did note about good flavour ... so I thought ...duh !...that's what you get for glossing over the package info. The Morning sun is quite good taste and productive and .....YES....I have to say It will be back in my garden . I actually grew the elfin in 2 gallon square containers and raised them up 2.5 ft and let the vines grow up and then cascade back down lower than the container . They did much better out side in the west coast cold and damp late season ...than the usual cast .. The morning sun to me is super productive .....the elfin tastes good ...but you have to catch elfin as they will fall off the vine with the lightest movement . They both seem to hold well after picking ...but as they are grape type they tend to be "snackin" as soon as picked ...ha ha ha

Good to know! Thanks for the feedback. I've really come to love the cherries and grapes, but there are sooooo many to choose from....

Well, there are a lot of variables. It's hard to be on top of everything all the time!
