Does your Lemongrass ever bloom?
I've had my lemongrass plants for over a year now. So pretty to see the green leaves blowing in the wind. I've yet to have any of them produce flowers or seed heads. Does your lemongrass ever produce seeds/flowers? I use my lemongrass leaves for a delicious lemon scent to my ice tea. Also use the white root part for Asian stir fry. It is also a great whitefly deterrent for the tomato plants. They are easy to propagate by dividing the roots when the root section is a medium to dark purple color. Would like to try growing some from seeds. Thanks for any info you may have.

It is a grass. You won't see blooms to speak of.

They must bloom at some point - I grew some from seeds. Very tiny seedlings.
It was tenacious as a house plant but I moved it into the greenhouse for the summer, and sadly came down with powdery mildew really bad... perished! How long have you been growing them? They do look large enough to flower. |

They should flower but need very tropical conditions.
Just about to bring my pot-grown one indoors for the winter. Unfortunately it is like a raw meaty bone for the pups. They love it for some reason. Gorgeous plants! I use it in Asian veg broth. The fibrous roots I smash with a rolling pin...add to broth. Then pour through a strainer. My local International grocery has it in bundles quite cheap but always try to grow a 'TinaTurner' heap. |

I grew mine from seeds this year. From what I've read it's hit or miss if you have some that produces seeds on a regular basis - mine didn't and I even refrained from harvesting any of it in hopes that it would help. I've moved it into the greenhouse for the winter.

It flowered for me regularly, each year for a few years, before I got rid of it. But I live in a frost-free climate, so maybe that’s what you need.

Edible lemon grass
All my friends and family know my credo/mantra/bull.....
“I will not grow it if I can’t smoke, eat,or drink it” Watched everyone ohh and ahh those pretty lemon grass plants and found this.Tastes nice as a additive to salads, found in all those high class joints downtown Miami now.Our regular lemon grass shucks its seed and is distributed via wind, stabs itself into a sandy loamy type environment (sand dunes etc.)We love the edibles.I have nothing to do with the nursery, but a good source for tropical farmers here. https://kensnursery.com/product/asia...o-lemon-grass/

Can I trim back the fro with no consequence? It is flopping over the large pot and onto the floor. Sure is thirsty inside.
