Default Favorite by Color

I am looking to try some new tomatoes thus I thought I would get other people's favorites.

I personally determine my favorite by flavor to me eating raw.
  • Red: Sudduth BrandyWine Red Brandywine
  • Pink: Guker's Special
  • Black: Paul Robeson
  • Yellow: Dr Wyches Yellow
  • Green:
  • White: Wapsipinicon Peach

Others
Cherry: Sungold & Black Cherry
Paste: Opalka

I plan on making an order from Sandhill Preservation tomorrow and thought I might try something different.

thanks,
Dean

One of the best hamburgers I ever had in my life was one with Black Angus beef and a big ole 1/2 thick slice of a giant persimmon tomato on it.
So there is my orange one.

I'm still looking for my favorites, but I use the same method for choosing varieties each year so that I end up with one beefsteak and one heart of each color -- red, pink, yellow/gold/multi. I don't grow blacks or greens as the few I've tasted did not appeal.

So far these would be my top picks:

Red - Russian 117 (still searching for a red beefsteak worth growing repeatedly)

Pink - Seek No Further Love Apple or Dester, and Cuor di Bue

Yellow/Gold/Bi-Color - Virginia Sweets and Orange Minsk Heart

The best way I can answer is that I've never grown a pink when ripe tomato that I did not like.

Japanese Pink Cherry is my favorite cherry tomato.

Red
Break O' Day
When conditions are just right these are unbeatable.
Cool nights, and just the right amount of water are the key. I grow them in the Fall and pray.
God laughs at my watering schedule.

Black
JDs Early black
My overall favorite. If you ever get the chance it will be yours too.
F1 only available as plants from Conroe Greenhouse. They wholesale to Texas Garden centers.

Yellow
Summer Sunrise
My favorite dwarf project tomato.

Orange
Blazing Beauty
Another excellent dwarf project tomato.

Pink
Porter
Great for cooking, canning whole, and juice.
Best tomato soup ever.

We both feel the same about Porter. It was THE tomato that made tomato growing fun for us. I still remember my wife saying after her first bite, "Now that's a real tomato!" I have six Porter plants in the solo cup stage already.
