ALS I grow in containers and raised beds, it's not as easy as growing in the ground. However I want to encourage you to stay at it you will learn things along the way that will make it easier and more enjoyable. Mike

There is so much more to learn, and so many different vegetables to try growing in containers.

In the last picture I posted above is of squash. In the background is a yellow Lantana - it's growing just fine in the ground. RKN and FW3 must not affect them.

You are welcome and you deserve it more than any one.

What I am doing now that I haven't done in the past is hitting some of the smaller containers with drain holes with a little 13-13-13 every time I water not much just a little.

Not everyone but some folks (I think) dont fertilize enough in containers.
So much gets used up and so much gets washed out.
Just a thought.

Worth, thank you. I didn't show the okra, but it does look good. This year has me sort of confused. May weather here was summertime weather. I need to fertilize a lot more in the okra containers and move them to where they get more sun. It's all part of the learning process.

Sue, yes, I am very excited to see the containers of plants doing so well. It does raise my spirits, and better yet, it gives me real hope.

There may or may not be a lot of tomatoes from the containers this season. The temperatures could very well be too hot too soon for flowers and tomatoes. There are some that look wonderful - hopefully it cools down a little to get more. If not, the container garden is a success. I really needed to see that. All of you can see in the pictures I posted today the huge difference. I was used to seeing the in-ground tomato and other vegetable plants suffer with RKN and FW3.

Salt I experimented with okra last year in different spots.
Shade is not conducive to good okra growth at all.
And I mean not one bit.
Neither is over crowding.

Your container garden looks so good Salt. So glad you jumped in and gave it a go...what a shocking
comparison to the raised bed plants with diseases,

I never thought I could grow anything edible at my city home, being forest, but started a few
containers 5 yrs ago in the driveway. Container growing allows me to spin and slide for better sun as
the season changes.
Last year was my first kitchen deck garden, one and 2 gallon fabric pots growing dwarfs and micros.
Also easy to move around until I start tying them to the railing.

Still a lot to learn about feeding etc, but I can't complain about the results so far.

What a reward for your efforts with containers, Salt. Wonderful difference. I know tomatoes can't compete with the wrist sized fir tree roots invading my garden area. Containers are a great alternative and you have proved that. Nice to see comparison pics. I do hope you get some fruits before the weather turns.

The past two days have been 100+F and I am seeing drooping/wilting during the hottest part of the day. I'm going to start watering in the early morning too. I have been watering in the evenings with a gallon of water/mix per container.

Maybe I should water a gallon in the morning and half a gallon in the evening?
