Vince,
Thanks for bumping up the photos. Are these photos of Sundgold F-2 or Sungold F1 X Cherokee Purple ? The three bigger plants do look similar. The runts are of a questionable nature to me. I will study them further. Tom Wagner |

Vince,
I am not at home, so I can't post pictures of my Sungold hybrids, F-2's, F-3's, F-4's of Sungold and of Sungold crossed lines. I gut feeling is that the leaflets seem to be broad enough to be hybrids. Sungold types seem to have a trend to a slightly more narrow leaf pattern. The more vigorous the seedling, the more likely the hybrid took. Tom W. |

Tom,
The three big ones are very vigorous, and the leaves are very flat and broader than other seedlings of the same size(JD's Special C-Tex, Black Cherry, Purple Haze F1, NAR). So hopefully this cross took. What should I expect as far as fruit size, shape, color, and variability goes? Thanks. Vince

Vince,
Based loosely on my previous crosses of Sungold F-1, all of the plants will look similar to start with. All will have large cherry tomatoes with 2-4 locules, and globe in shape. All of the plants will have fruits less sweet than Sungold. But oddly, you may find that either all of the plants will have red fruits, all three gold, 2 golds/1 red, or 2 reds/1gold. Saving seed of the red fruited kinds will segregate only for red, while 2 out of three of the golds will segregate for gold or red. Tom Wagner |

Tom, so what about purple or Black?
Will I not see this color fruit in the F2 saved from red or yellow? Do I need to Backcross to end up with large purple fruit or Black fruit? Thanks Vince
