I take the bags off and tie a purple ribbon onto the truss as soon as they set fruit. Unless the bags are big ones, the tomato would fight for space. Mine are 4.5" bags so no room for development. I'm not sure how you could protect individual ones from the worm, but I guess if the tomato is ripe you could still squeeze the seeds out, I can't imagine the worm would harm the seeds except eat them. Maybe someone else would know if the transmit diseases - I doubt it. Do you only have the one tomato? Maybe if you bag other flowers on the plant you'll get more luck.

no kidding, eh? but we're actually getting some rain this summer...can you believe it???? summer rain...IN PERTH!

yeah...i can bag another tomato...but i reckon since the grub is already going to ruin any chances of actually eating this tomato...may as well just take the seeds from it.

derris dust. hmm. is that organic?

Tessa, Derris dust has been strongly associated with Parkinson's Disease. Google Derris Dust and Parkinson's Disease and you should find an interesting article by a New Zealand Organic Growers organisation which outlines the scientific associations.

Glad to see you getting some rain

Monster no more. I had to pick it as it started to ripen and I didn't want it rotting on the bush.

Thought I do a test in the Dutch Creams that are just about ready to dig. This is the haul from the hand scrabble round one plant. Probably more deeper down but have run out of steam planting 15 Happy Tasmanian Chocolate. These Dutch Creams are from the Tas. dpi potato research farm. Those cuckes are just what I need for my cucumber salad to go with my chili prawns on Christmas day - mine are woeful at present. Do you think they could fly over using the last of my frequent flyer points?

It's a deal Tessa. Next cab off the rank is Nicola. Mantis, you are way ahead with the zukes - I only got mine into the garden three weeks ago so it will be a while and they are not standing up to the salt too well.

Hey, do you think mov. file tours of the patch would work, with expert commentary, of course, harvesting footage and taste tests?
