Are you planning on using Daconil? I am further along without any major problems than the past two seasons.. I have sprayed every 7 to 10 days since the plants went in.

My harvest as of this morning. 79 tomatoes not counting sungold and 51 cukes. Friends and neighbors are especially nice right about now for some reason.

Is it any wonder? If I was your neighbor, I'd be bringing over a 6-pack to split over lunch

duajones, you must have gotten a good start. How many plants do you have planted?

I have 22 tomato plants total and I started the majority of my plants on christmas day. Ended up being too early but it worked out in the end. Plants went in the ground February 28th. I am growing

Azoychka
Big Beef
Black Krim
Brandywine
Bush Celebrity
Bush Early Girl
Cherokee Purple
Jet Star
New Big Dwarf
Sungold

Brandywine and Bush Celebrity are the only ones that havent began ripening yet

As a matter of fact, yes. I've already sprayed them once with the Daconil. I used it another year and saved some plants from Septoria Leaf Spot. Last year I waited too long and they were just too far gone - too little too late. I'm trying not to make that same mistake this year.

The Bush Early Girl plants (4 of them) are very productive and although I havent pulled a fruit from the bush Celebrity (1 plant) it has to have 60 or more fruit on it. The Big Beef are also pretty productive as well. And of course Sungold is just a monster, it needs its own zip code, absolutely loaded with fruit. Im still waiting on a sweet one though

My first slicing sized tomato is starting to color up:

Creole, about the size of a tennis ball.

wont be long now, it seems like the first one always takes forever. Pulled my first bush celebrity this morning as well, weighed in at 11.5 oz but most seem to be smaller than that.

These tomatoes will LOOK ripe for a long time but you need to leave them alone, they should almost fall off on their own.

The same can be said for yellow pear and other cherries/grapes as well.
They should be picked when they look almost orange to have any flavor.
the reds should be a dark stop sign red.
they should all be soft to the touch.

I think most tomatoes are picked too early due to fear of something happening to them, or folks just cant wait.

If the tomatoes have some green in them they were picked about a week too early.

If they are still greenish on the out side maybe two weeks early.

It takes a lot of patients to grow good tomatoes, don't mis out by eating too early.

After all these things put on a lot of fruit so just leave some on and see for your self, trust me you will be astonished at the difference in flavor.

Ok, I have had several more and still havent had what I would call a remotely sweet tomato. I have tons of fruit with many in different stages of ripeness. pulled one yesterday that almost fell off and it still wasnt very good. Not sure why but thats been my experience with Sungold so far

From my experience this pastweek the first few sungolds and sunsugars had a mushyness to them, and were not quite right, no sweet as usual etc and not very juicy. But after those first 4 or 5, they are now tasting right.
