I have to pick just after first blush because if I dont then something of the human (neighbor) or critter kind will beat me to it.

Cant wait for these to ripen to try side by side. The Brandy Boy is definitely more uniform and was just a smidge earlier. Not sure on productivity yet. It's pretty close with BB maybe having a slight edge so far.

Mine finally germinated, and is coming along nicely. very curious... many reviews praise the flavor.
I have grown one pink PL beefsteak before, it was Soldacki, and the taste was excellent. Really curious if BrandyBoy can hold the candle to it.

The 4 big ones on the left are BB and a couple below the yellow cherries are Brandywine Sudduth. Cant wait to taste test them side by side. The Big Beefs were planted later so have a ways to go.

They look great Randall - as does the flowering shrub (what is that?) behind them!! My experience says BB will out produce Sudduth but both of them have great taste! Looking forward to your report!

Decherdt - I looked over Tatiana's inventory and ordered ABC PL and Brandywine Cherry PL. I planted seeds for both of them today. Thanks for your suggestions!

Brandy Boy


Ok I tried both Brandy Boy and Brandywine Sudduth side by side. I tried the Brandy Boy first and it was delicious. It was perfect in a tomato sandwich. I love the uniform shape (we made 3 or 4 sandwiches from one tomato). So we were definitely happy with the Brandy Boy and all enjoyed our tomato sandwiches.

Then I tried the Brandywine Sudduth and it just had that extra bit of creaminess and texture that the Brandy Boy did not have. However, I'm not sure I would have missed this trait if I had never tasted it before (which most of my friends and family have not). So I am very happy with Brandy Boy for all of the good things about it... uniformity, earliness, easy to grow, keeps pumping out tomatoes. It gives me plenty of lucious large beefsteaks to share with my friends and family from just a couple of plants. But I will also keep some Brandywines around for that special treat even though some are cat faced, its not quite as productive, etc.

Brandywine Sudduth - had to cut out some of the cat facing scars....


One of my neighbors said the Brandy Boy they swiped off my plant was the best tomato they had ever had... :-)

Thats my thoughts for now.

Thanks to this thread I tried a wonderful tomato that I probably wouldn't have tried and love it!

Ginny, I thought you were teasing about tomatoes gone missing because of neighbors! Glad you and the neighbor - haha - liked the Brandy Boys! The longer the season progresses the more we like the Brandy Boys. We also grow a couple of Sudduth and this year a couple of Cowlicks. The Brandy Boys are still producing when the Heirlooms start shutting down for the year.

We are in an RV Park on the intracoastal waterway so our neighbors are very close by and we are all good friends. I encourage them to help themselves. We grow enough to share and love that part of growing them. Its just I had never tasted the Brandy Boys and my neighbor didnt know and he beat me to it... lol.

I am a big fan now of Brandy Boy. Thank you so much for starting this thread!

My Brandy's are in full bloom but no fruits set detected. They are the biggest plants in the garden.
Not to worry. I have other varieties with fruits, expected to ripen in about 2 weeks.

Ginny, yes and no.
Before I moved to PNW I was gardening in Atl, GA which has similar climate and season to where I am now in NC. The difference is in the soil: GA has red clay soil, but here we have sandy soil. In both case the soil needs to be amended with lots of organic matter to balance out drainage and moisture retention.
Judging from my plants, I am doing pretty well. Maybe even better than GA.
