Default They are born hardened off

I start my seedlings outdoors, where they get full sun until about 2 hours before sunset. And plenty of wind.

These are 9-day-old Heidi seedlings in the front that were transplanted into their own cups yesterday, with older seedlings (mix of Green Zebra, Riesentraube, Eva Purple Ball) behind.

Closeup of the Heidi seedlings. I think they've been my fastest and strongest growing babies yet, and they germinated especially quickly too.

These were Opalka seedlings that are also 9 days old, although they only started to catch up to Heidi yesterday and were separated into cups today. They're pretty floppy!

And here are some older ones that are ready to put in the ground wherever I get around to it. I have Green Zebra, Riesentraube and Eva Purple Ball that were started sometime in December. These are my slow growers because most are in the ground. There's also a purchased German Queen and Yellow Pear in there, and purchased chili peppers in the back.

I've also got Stupice that I started with Heidi and Opalka but took an extra two days to germinate, and some seedlings I saved from a couple grocery store tomatoes that tasted especially good (a round, medium orange and black pear-shaped cherry).

They look nice Alexita. I hope they do well with all this heat and humidity! I fear it is already too hot.

It's been so hot... I have low expectations until November, but I gotta keep busy somehow!

There is always the Bzzzzzz. You just need them to grow quickly.

Thinking about when it gets too hot for fruit set, I'm going to try buzzing early in the morning.

I am taking mine outside, for hardening off this Tuesday, March 29th.
In about a week or 10 days I should be able to plant out, weather permitting.
It has been almost 5 weeks when I sowed the seeds.

Here are a few shots from the GH. Had my first enemy bugs on one of my Goldman's Italian American.

These GIA are the best of the bunch this year, they all look like this.

I see the PU, but how do you transport that many tomato plants if there is more than a single layer for the bed?

They all fit in there, its the long bed XLT and I can fit 12 flats of 18 and since I have never sold that many in 1 day at market at this stage it is enough. I just use wood slats over a tarp and screw it down to the truck to protect them from wind, works great. I would eventually like to get a small enclosed trailer and build shelves inside but that is a long way down the road.

Thanks, I didn't realize it was the big bed. I have a little Mazda PU and an even much smaller Dodge ram, so if I ever did plants at like the flea market, would have to figure out a shelf of some sort.

Wow that is an interesting set up! I've seen sort of the same, but for different plants.
