Orange Jazz

I don't remember them not selling. Last summer was a bad year for tomatoes, so I didn't have a lot for very long. I think the stripe pattern on them would make them sell better than any other orange tomato.

I think Jazz, OJ, and Yellow Jazz would make a fine lineup as market tomatoes...especially sitting next to the Artisan cherries. Obviously you'll want to grow a lot of reds, too. You mentioned you like Wes. It is at least a heart, to set it apart from the red baseballs other vendors will be selling.

They do look great! Any recent news on the Orange Jazz?

They all look like this now. Loaded, huge fruit, good fruitset, still setting in heat/humidity, overall very good. Several nearly ripe. Eating one soon. The only negative I have is that they seem prone to having the blossom get stuck in the tomatoes sometimes which causes a zipper on small hole to form (you can see it in the bottom tomato in the pic). I have started to pull the dead flowers at small size to prevent it. Still much less deformed than typical heirlooms though.

They look really healthy. Are you treating for fungal diseases, or just removing lower leaves?

I have been spraying. I also sacrificed several hornworms to the tomato gods during a full moon so that might have helped.

BVV, your pictures sure have Orange Jazz on my radar! What great production of some big tomatoes. I'm looking forward to some cut fruit and tasting comments!

Thanks guys, Fred's tomatoes have been a boon to me so far. No cut fruit yet as I like dead ripe tomatoes best. Here are a few bigun's I picked today. Unfortunately the biggest one got squished against the post. All of these were from the same truss and that tomato was in the middle. I am pretty disappointed but at least I have others just as big.

My season is over, but I grew them this spring and the color was more yellow like yours. I was expecting them to look like Kelloggs Breakfast.

Interesting. They are Orange when ripe, in our hands. But different climates do crazy things.

These aren't 100% ripe. More like halfway. Plus the lighting makes them look more yellow. Mine are orange when fully ripe.

I've had quite a few of these, as they are productive. Every time I bite into one I think "That was a great purchase." Those subtle stone fruit hints are definitely there.

Orange Jazz can easily handle a telephone booth boxing match with Sweet Ozark Orange.
