Default There are never enough words in this universe to soften a loss.

Count the garden by the flowers, never by the leaves that fall. Count your life with smiles and not the tears that roll. - Unknown

This is so true, the pain passes but the love and affection continues, as I also experienced on losing my dear father. Dear Jan, I hope your pain passes swiftly to the memory and love that endures.

As a fellow orphan you have my condolences, too. Gardening is a great way to deal with life and the wonders of new life. I hope you can find peace and comfort as you get to experience life in your garden.

A social worker once told me that life is about dealing with loss of others. This was not intended as a callus statement, but rather an inquiry as to how we deal with loss. In the best of practice as the adage goes, we hold it and caress it while dealing with life's lesser distractions.

As a boy I knew my great-grandfather well. He was born in Iowa shortly after the U.S. Civil War and took turns riding a horse and pushing a handcart to the San Bernardino valley in southern California. He outlived his first, second, and third wife and all his children -- knowing only his grand- and great grand-children in his senior years. Through all that, he celebrated the life of everyone around him and those who had gone by. What an example he set for everyone who knew him.

Positive waves being sent in your direction. One thing I definitely got from my Dad was the love of gardening.

Hang in there, we're all here with and for ya.
