This is the product I last used. Before I had access to hot melt chunks that we melted in metal cans to coat the bottom of 4x4 P.T. lumber for new fences to protect below grade concrete encased wood.

Kurt, I saw that this morning. I also missed that BlackJack only covers 7 Sq. ft. at 1/4 inch thick. It would become costly.

We're going to go with the linseed/mineral oil and then paint it all the same color. That protects and keeps it all the same color. Even though on the inside, we'll only see the very top inch or so of the boards. I still think it would look better.

I appreciate everyone's help. I've learned along the way, and hope this thread helps others with the same question in the future.

Salt when I said tar I meant the stuff you have to melt like they use on construction sites not the stuff in the can.

Years ago in Austin a man came up missing on the job site, they didn't have no idea where he went.
They found him in the hot tar melter.
It seems as though he fell off the roof into it and nobody saw him.

That's one heck of a way to die. We had to fire labors who wouldn't keep their hands out of the mortar mixers. You have to be careful on the job.

I did see that thread last night after I posted here, gosh darn it! Here I was hoping you had squids creeping out of your kelp weed mulch! It's almost Halloween, you know.

Be careful with treated wood. Older treated wood may have copper arsenate(?), which I've heard is really nasty stuff.

Aside from root crops, I wonder how much that stuff gets into tomato tissues and then into the fruits !!! AND at what concentration ?.
