Just checked in specifically because of concern about Worth, Salt, and other folks in TX.
I'm relieved to see Salt saying he's well out of the path. Worth, please stay home from work and safe! ( If you won't do so for yourself, do it for your cat!) |

I'm at work we wont feel the effects till tonight or tomorrow but who knows.
The good part is I will be going home against the flow of any evacuation traffic and I know back roads. This job can go fly a kite. The head electrician told me they were shutting down after noon. Worth |

Here is a picture of what clouds look like when there is a storm in the gulf.
I can also smell the ocean it seems. This is to the east. Worth IMG_20170825_45575.jpg |

Worth, the WC just said they are expecting 10" of rain in the Austin area by Monday. I take it that much rain will do a lot of flooding in your area? I don't know how your area handles massive rainfall.

My area as in my house is on a hill and I can leave any time I want and not be trapped.
Did the research before I bought it. |

Good, I figured you were likely ok. Do they have a sewer system to remove water during heavy rain like they do around here? I know when I was in AZ a 1/2" of rain flooded out roads.

The clouds here are much lower and darker and quite thick to boot. The local weather critters are claiming that no matter what Harvey does, we will not be effected by the storm...yet we already are, the dunderheads.
I just hope Harvey doesn't do as Carla did, and at least it is still not as strong as Carla was. If we all were really really lucky, it would bounce back out to the open sea and dissipate quickly, but probably not going to happen. |

Years ago I was working in Houston installing elevators in the 72 story Allied Bank Plaza when hurricane Alicia hit at 90mph. We were hunkered down on B4 (4 stories underground), the building was only supposed to sway a foot and a half in those kinds of winds, it was swaying 6 feet... Very scary, all kinds of popping and noises. After the storm passed we went up to street level and looked out, the streets were covered with 3 feet of broken glass, about 1/4 of the windows were blown out of the building. The first thing I noticed was a stop sign that was ripped out of the sidewalk that was stuck thru a car. It took 8 hours to get out of downtown that day. I don't ever want to go thru the eye of a hurricane again...

If I don't smile and laugh I will break down in tears. I updated on the "Weather thread" earlier. We are safe, we evacuated out last evening.

I wasn't there during the storm, thank God, but I saw what Andrew left in his wake - nothing. My wife was in Gulfport for Katrina and hid out in an elementary school. To say that she was 'impressed' would be an understatement.
I'd rather dodge tornadoes.
