I have a TON of them in my strawberry bed. I don't like to pick the fruit until its ripe and by that time (at least last year) I find they are eating their fair share. I realize they are actually beneficial from the perspective of breaking up the soil but I'd still like to control them at least somewhat...

I have yet to see any benefit from fire ants. Left to their own devices they will take over. I had no luck keeping them under control until a product called Amdro came out. It is a bait which causes the queen to lay sterile eggs. It doesn't kill outright but is much more effective in the long run if you use it regularly.

I would be overrun with large black carpenter ants each spring and summer. I found Amdro Ant Block bait in Lowes. Its a great product, within a week no more ants.
