Hi
I know this is a couple of months old but I was doing and found this Generally, Heirloom tomatoes arent overly popular in England, the most popular is Alisa Craig which is still sold in every garden centre, personally I like one called outdoor girl which is an old potato leafed variety but with very good cold tolerance and very early, basically bred to suit our colder wet summers outdoors. The reasons Heirlooms probably arent as popular is Tomatoes are a challenge and so newer better varieties welcomed. Space is very limited here so more productive tomatoes again welcomed. I think Britain has quite a long tradition in plant breeding as well as a big seed industry, alot of magazines which all market new varieties. |
