Oh. I always thought rye was to be tilled under while it was still green to get the benefit of the fertilizer effect. Green manure?

rye is very hard to till or turn under and use as green manure but it acts as a weed suppressant or pre emergent as a killed and tilled crop. The neighbor who farms helps with some of the things we don't have time for ( he has a dairy farm). we grow sweet corn on a couple acres he can't fit his large equipment on in between a couple houses.
