Ami,
Yeah - I'm not quite sure why TYW does that: it just randomly pops out hearts amongst "popeye chinned" beefsteak fruits. Not sure if its environmental, but one can never be "too sure" ... Thanks for keeping them aside. ~ Tom

Here's what it looked like sliced. Very tight locules compared to the others pictured above. Good flavor but a bit bland due it being first one and a tad over ripe.

I would agree with Earl... my experience was that the later fruits were definitely tastier...ie., less bland... than the early ones from the same plant.

hmmmm - interesting report Earl!
Here's to hoping the later fruits provide a better taste for you I remember a couple years ago when we had a lot of rain, all fruit flavor was effected. We do not "purposely" water our tomato plants - they get what "mother nature" gives them (aka rain) and only if its going to be 100 degrees for a number of days straight will I lay out a soaker hose. ~ Tom

I'll find out very shortly as my first one is almost ready. As I'm growing my TYW under my balcony shielded for the most part from rain we shall see if thats a factor. Ami

OK, here we go. Couldn't wait any longer and went out and picked the monster. Took pictures, sliced it, deseeded it and ate it. The jury is still out on the taste as I will make my results known after I taste the next one off the vine. The wife liked it very much. Without further ado here are the pics. Ami

we've had a really great season for TYW ...
didn't have any "off flavor" fruits and the disease tolerance has been great. I'm bringing a few to a party this weekend. When I told them I was bringing a yellow tomato they replied: "a what"??? ~ Tom

Here the latest pictures on some of the fruit this tomato machine is starting to put out. It's 8 feet tall and still reaching for the sky. Ami

I see more hearts on your plant than any other I've seen in a long time ... Also out of curiosity, do you have that plant in a pot ??? ~ Tom

Hey everyone, hope all is well -
If anyone has any cool pictures or reports from this past growing season (08) or if you're in the SH growing TYW this season (08-09) could you post your results here ? Thanks, and we hope everyone has a great season ! ~ Tom

oh pleeeze - are their any seeds available for a gal seeking for that flavorful "yaller mater" of her youth (or yout depending). I do have hot, hot, hot & humid here 200 yards from the ocean but lots of loamy sand to work with. Would love a chance to grow that beauty.... and eat it up lol!

Ok Tom , here you go. The plant is in the same selfwatering tub as last year and is doing as well or better.
Pics of one I picked a couple of weeks ago (760g) and four that I picked today after coming back from holidays. |
