Just had torrential rain and thunder... now sun. Plants just put on another few inches... even the dwarfs are growing tall

Tomorrow I buy another leaky hose, plant out the last patch, transplants eggies and peppers, plant zukes and more...

It's going off in a big way here...

Cosmic, today's weather is plain crazy! Might send you a buck-toother, maybe this'll appease the weather gods.

The gnome is still not eating our slugs. Might send it back to you.

Hey, FM, that is fantastic! Do you have it in a pot or in the ground?
It's not too late for you to sow more eggplants. But are you really, really sure you can eat them all?

It's in a 25cm pot and I'm thinking I should have used a bigger one.

Yeah you're probably right about the eggplants.....I can still see Vincent's face at the end of last season when I came in the house with a bucket full. He didn't have to say a word I got the drift prrrrretty quickly.

Crazy weather here too. From sun to rain to sun again in 20 minutes. You gotta love Melbourne!

I've just potted my eggplants - only got their second leaves after 6 weeks. For some reason they just don't take off until about December in Tassie yet they have plenty warmth in the greenhouse. It was March before we got any last year. Same with the Capsicums - they just didn't ripen so I've thought I'd get them started a bit earlier this year - to no avail - they are just lurking there doing next to nothing. I've only grown then last year for the first time so it's real trial and error for me.
Tess that is amazing that it's overwintered and flowering already!
Spatz thanks for sending gnome back - two might be better hunters since it's raining steadily. I do wish they wouldn't smoke though! I can't believe I'd get sick of rain after last year!

it's a lebanese, spatz. got it from, like, you know...bunnings.

that's just one of the branches...the other branch has blossoms too...and i've put the electric toothbrush to each flower...and they simply exploded with pollen.

cosmic...you sould try overwintering in the greenhouse.
this one was in the (unheated) greenhouse...and i've got another round back that survived in the cold, hard (okay...sandy) ground.
it's blooming too.

who ever thought it would be the eggies that came in first?

Planted out the last bed and the earlies, transplanted the peppers and eggies, some 50 or so, and the wheels are in motion... everything looking good, though two plants in the patch got hit by cut worms, with trimmed leaves, but they should be alright.

Looking really good this season.... best ever for seedlings. Not a death.

Some idle observations:

Box Car Willie: I think this is the real deal and despite a slow start is tearing away.

I’m really stoked with the wispy Italian kinda ones like Linnie’s Oxheart; Tony’s Italian; Perito Italian; also Monomach’s Hat; and more… these are all new to me and I can’t wait.

Andrey’s Belarus Heart is looking great.

Gogosha is a terrific wispy PL teenager.

Vorlon, Aunt Gertie’s Gold and Aunty Ginny's are really happy.

The strongest: Mountaineer Mystery (no idea what to expect here) and Lucky Cross.

Rainy’s Maltese is a strong determinate from an Aussie forum friend… this could be a great surprise.

Sara's Galapagas is looking great at last.

Uralskiy Ranniy is a nice compact early dwarfy type.

Great Wall is very strong. As is JD’s Special C-Tex and Spark’s Yellow.

Summertime Green is the strongest dwarf.

Rainys maltese for me is a very strong and bushy plant. Flowers are open and should have fruit set on it soon.

Lime Green Salad

Plants in the self watering tubs are doing the best by far

I haven't heard of Italian Sweet... who's your source and what's the deal?

Never grown Lime Green Salad but read your reviews and those of others and see it's back... so will have to give a try next season.

I'll hope to get some Grandpa Willie seeds from you.

I will have plenny others to share.

Summer is really getting into gardening and eating the mulch.

Grub,
I think Rainy has a photo of a 500g Rainy's Maltese, so I'll ask her to post it here. It certainly performed well for me right from the germination stage.
Two stand outs here since they went in the ground last week are Brandywine Pink and Kotlas, both Potato Leaf, both are liking the conditions in the ground and doing well.

Summer will know all about gardening by the time the season is over.
She is a keen learner for sure.
