I don't think I've ever had a bread/tomato/mayo sandwich. I may have to give it a try.
I remember eating toast with mayonnaise, as a child....when there wasn't much of anything else to snack on in the house.
BLT's are one of my favorites.
I'll keep my eye out for Dukes mayo. Sounds good!

Some of the longest lived people I have ever known (I'm a caregiver) were all meat and potatoes and white bread people. One thing they all had in common is that they brushed and flossed often. I wondered if that was a factor too. My pets get organics only but for Mom (me) anything goes !

Fresh out of the garden tomato and onion on a grilled cheese is perfect. Looking forward though to trying some of the suggestions on this thread!

Step-momma from Indiana used Miracle Whip to make "mater sammiches".

Momma never made "mater sammiches", unless you count BLT's with Hellman's as the same thang.

Grew up in Florida and I have never heard of Duke's until tonite.

Can't live forever and eating terrible tasting food will not help in that regard at all! I can't help but throw a piece of processed bologna and mustard on my tomato sandwiches. Greatest thing ever!
I love stone ground 100% whole wheat with lots of seeds and grains. To me, white bread is just baked paste(flour and water). Different strokes, right?
Tim- try pan frying that Bologna first. OMG! So good!

I had my first tomato sandwich of the season today. White wheat, kraft mayo and an entire Cosner tomato. Boy that first one always tastes so good.

Grilled swiss or cheddar with Visalia onion, spudakee tomato and sliced pickles. I Had a BLat with fried green tomatoes at the restaurant recently. That was also to die for.
Sometimes, I eat a good tomato, mayo/salt and no bread. That's yummy,too.
I prefer whole wheat or rye bread. Homemade when I have the time.

It's 10PM here and I'm hungry again after reading these kinds of posts here. Will you quit it already!
But since you asked, my fav way to eat tomatoes in a sandwich is any kind of bread, fresh or toasted, with mayo, tomato, crisp lettuce and slices of juicy crispy Japanese cucumbers (they are the juiciest and don't have those big nasty seeds). Add a little salt, freshly ground pepper....Ahhh! Now I won't be able to sleep, I'll be so hungry!

I have not had my fave sandwich for at least few months now. Trying to loose few pounds. If I eat one... can't stop.
I like it on a toasted bread (sourdough or ray) with slice of tomato, slice of cheese (mozz, cheddar, any type that melts), hot pepper (fresh or dry) microwaved for few seconds to melt cheese. Yaaammm...
For sunday breakfast I may top it with fried egg (make sure the yolk is still running).

+nod+ This.

These days my 'mater sandwiches are more upscale, but some days I go back my childhood favorite.

My BLT 'recipe' is marvelous, but I'm not allowed to make them very often.

It starts with 'cook a pound of thin cut applewood smoked bacon', involves lightly toasted fresh sourdough bread, homemade aoli (flavor depends upon my mood), fresh picked greens, thick slices of home grown 'maters warm off the vine, and ends 'serves one'. Followed by 'beach on the couch for an hour'.

Apparently these days one is not supposed to eat a pound of bacon at a go. Who knew?
