Sherry,
I now think that the Triple Climbers are red and not pink. I wish I would of looked at the skin on those big ones but I didn't think to. I will try it again next year to give it a decent chance I hope. Sue PS I have a couple of small ones ripening up so I will peel some skin and take a picture of it. |

I just harvested some fruit from my plant. I will check the skin color and post pictures in the next day or two. Ami

My Triple Climbers are red. Just checked the skin color which was difficult to peel off. Sherry, you got those seeds from me and I got them directly from the fellow in Fairbanks. Would you guys say there were some crossed seeds on his end? Not that it matters except that the line wouldn't be as pure as maybe he thought.

Forgot to add that I thought it was odd that the shapes were so different from each other also.

OK, here are pictures of 4 fruits I harvested last weekend with pictures of the skin from two different fruits. Taste was good depending on the stage of ripeness. Cowlicks, Oleyars, Barlow Jap and Kolb Pink were superior in the flavor department but was better than Gukers Special. Ami

Ami -- Your skin pictures (that sounds bad, doesn't it???!!!!) look pink (transparent) to me. Are they? I'm so glad taste was better for you. I guess mine could have been affected by weather. Yours look more like Sue's in shape.
I don't think I had a mix-up here, or at least nothing else seemed wrong as far as an accidental switch. I'm not sure what to make of this. Sherry Last edited by Sherry_AK; September 30, 2010 at 07:16 PM. |

No taste testing here yet. I picked mine green last week when freezing nights were in forecast. We had frost on the lawn, but tomato plants survived, so I could still had left them on. This is my harvest from two plants. Shapes are quite irregular.

Here's a picture of my plant taken today and even as the weather has cooled down it is still going strong. Ami

The Triple Climbers are ripening indoors.I do not really know difference between pink and red tomato, but these look pink to me. I have Anna Russians in same basket and those turned more red. Taste is mild, but still much better than the average grocery store tomato we would be eating without these. I saved seeds for next year and then I will try them in my HFGH.

I have now cooked and canned most of the ripened Triple Climbers to salsa with my home grown hot peppers and onions. These were quite productive outdoors here and the tomatoes have lots of meat, so even if they are not the best tasting sandwich tomatoes, I'm happy about the experiment.
Big thanks to Ami! Sari

Sherry,
I saved the dried skins for you to look at later since you are the better judge of the color. They now look pink again to me. Thanks Ami for arranging for the seeds directly from Fairbanks...I will try them again hopefully in a better summer. Sue |
