I can't get over how expensive Pro Mix is in some areas! I'm surprised that it's only $27 here in Montreal. Mind you everything else costs a fortune

the bags of Pro-Mix (any variety) that I buy here in the states is labeled "product of Canada". Shipping, tarrifs, ect... I believe is what equates to a lot of the price differences on these forums. One person says "$25 at my store" another says $49. Makes sense depending where you are located.

All the good peat is North of the 49th so us southerners have to pay up.

I couldn't find pine bark fines here strangely, and the orchid mix is incredibly expensive, so Pro Mix became my go-to. Fafard is very very expensive in my neck of the woods and so is MG organic container mix. Pro-Mix works the best for my needs.

Pro Mix is going up after the first of the year, is what my local says.

Struck a deal with a hydroponics shop 1 mile from the house for $42 on the Pro Mix HP, same price as driving to Commerce City, which is twenty miles away. I took half a pallet, 15 bags, and agreed on cash to save them credit card processing fees.

Says she was told by her distributor to expect a 10%-15% hike on nearly all peat products after the first of the year.

I went to the local hydro store and they are now only carrying one pro-mix.

It is the HP with BOTH BioFungicide + Mycorrhizae .

The packaging looks exactly like the BX except is says HP.

It was $40.xx right under $41.

You must have a greenhouse.

Thanks for the tip re: price increase.

ETA - I'm still using a bale of the BX; it will be interesting to visually compare the amount of Perlite.

Not using it till Spring, but it makes money sense with an increase likely and needing so many bags for start-up. I've got a good sized shed, storing it's no problem.

I bought a bale of ProMix HP last spring and still have half of it. It is hard as a rock. Is it still good?

You have to break it up but then just add water and it will be fine.
Here in the Sacramento area Home Depot carries it.

I agree. Be generous with the water. I'd dump a gallon into it, as well as mist the surface. Mine has perlite in it, not sure about all brands, but perlite dust is really bad to breathe. The package on my brand says "moisten product before using."

I cant believe how much it cost for y'all, its 15$ a bale wholesale here. The stuff I use is only 11$ and If you buy a whole pallet its around 8$ per.
