Worth, you need to figure in the enjoyment factor. It costs a lot more, but it would be funny to hear your neighbor asking you why the deer are suddenly polka dotted. http://www.ansgear.com/Tiberius_Arms...rifleelite.htm

I am having a hard time wrapping my mind around and getting used to 20 yards. I am used to shooting 600 yards. It is either me or the pellets I have tried a few and none of them satisfy me as far as accuracy. When I put one in I know it is going to be a flyer before I even shoot. I put the Leopold scope on it and it isn't any better. But a squirrel at 40 yards doesn't have a chance. Worth |

I really like the JSB Diablo Exact brand of pellets. They are a little pricey but as with lots of things you get what you pay for. Just my 2 cents......

That's awful. Someone keeps putting gravel in our mailbox. It's always a few, so I'm thinking it's a child.

I don't understand why people need to do those things. Loosening lug nuts is criminal in my mind. That is putting the driver and others at risk.
I have wondered if most crimes committed by male youth has to do with testosterone levels being way too high? Post #796 was just a friend joking around. I wouldn't shoot a deer with a paint gun, and I know Worth wouldn't either. Deer can be a pain, but as long as they leave the garden alone - they're also fun to watch. They're the same as squirrels - if they leave your garden alone - they are entertaining. Don't feed them - they don't need your help. |

I am getting interested in air riffles.
![]() Next year I might move to rural South Carolina , to a big farm setting. I am sure there will be some targets down there to sharpen my shooting skill. ![]() So I am following this discussion with interest. Gardeneer |

I have no idea where you are from originally or your background other than I think you may have logged at one time. If I were moving to a rural area on a larg form setting I wouldn't give a pellet gun one thought. They have rules here but know one seems to follow them. One ios it is unlawful to shoot a bb or pellet gun in the city limits of Bastrop. On the other hand in the same regulations it is okay if you can keep the projectiles on your property. The same goes for shooting a bow. And shotguns I think can be used on one acre settings or more. Rifles and hand gun shooting on 10 acres or more. Now the cops down the road from me where I used to live shot live firearms in their back yard all of the time, no way did they have 10 acres or an approved shooting range. None of these laws apply to protecting yourself or property. Now Texas is considering what they call constitutional carry. I have looked into gun clubs and so on and some of these are over the top. Some require you to have a back ground check or a carry permit before you can shoot or join. Others require a 100 dollar a year membership and then you still pay money when you show up to shot and then only for a limited amount of time. People think it is easy to find a place to shoot a rifle in Texas it isn't. Where I used to live I was a member of a gun club we had a nice place with shooting out to 600 yards and me and another guy were working on the 1000 yard range but I left and so did the other guy so it never happened. I moved away from there and now I have these nice long range rifles and hand loading equipment with no place to use them. Many ranges are being shut down due to lead contamination or population increase. This is very hard for me I was raised up in an area I could shoot a 155 Howitzer to living in an area that according to law I cant shoot a kids toy if the pellet leaves my yard. All this while the cops down the road break the law. Worth |

Now back to the tomato plants and some observations.
In the area that no one in their right mind would have thought tomato plants would grow. Even though the deer are keeping it cut down for me the tomato plants are a nice dark green and I only fertilized them one time with MG a long time ago. This is due to the layer of good soil that has settled on top of the clay. In the front yard where I planted the beans and cucumbers this isn't the case. Between the snails and poor soil nothing is doing good. I put three tomato plants in one of the raised beds and they all get sun scald. So New Big Dwarf fruit doesn't like the sun. At least not my sun. So even though the deer have ate me out of house and home the over all health of the plants that survived the floods are doing good. I haven't sprayed or even picked any bad looking leaves from them. The two plants that are in the one gallon containers sunk half way in the ground are still putting out tomatoes and doing great. They out grew what ever was eating or on them a long time ago. So next year when I plant tomatoes I am not even going to remove them from the one gallon or what ever containers. Worth |

I saw deer prints in the garden and I had one plant topped. We do have around here a lot but they never really bother the garden.

Now the deer have worked their way onto my driveway and are eating those plants.
Maybe I can put out food and lure one into the garage. Well as I was typing this another one was eating my plants again. ![]() I popped a tomato stake next to it and it ran off. Now here is the weird thing these guys are showing up at all times of the day. Worth |
