Wonderful news, Ray - but keep on smiling and making faces at your tomatoes anyway!

If you develop any sensitivities to the chemicals in tomato leaves
and stems, wearing long sleeves and thin latex or nitrile gloves while working with the plants or harvesting may be sufficient protection. The hazmat suit would be more for the extreme case of someone working in a commercial tomato field. It might be an OSHA-mandated thing. (In a factory or mill, the company would have to make them available to workers if they were needed to protect them in toxic work environments. Their commercial liability insurance would demand it, for one thing, and it would be against federal law not to, for another. Why should a commercial farm be any different?) As far as recovery goes, think of any therapy as training your failover brain cells. Those that used to do the job are unwell. In many cases, your brain can use other brain cells to do the same things, but at first they are still untrained workers.

Hi Ray, your body picked a good time for a break. The weather in NorCal has been atrocious these past couple weeks (for the most part). It's very good to hear that you are on the road if not at the destination to/for full recovery. I'd say gardening is just the ticket, but if you're anything like me, it can be less zen-like/meditative and more back-breaking/stress-inducing than one might think. In any event, you always seem to come through on top of it all with success in one hand and a truck load of delicious produce the other.
My very best wishes to you, -naysen |

Hi All,
The speaking is returning to normal, but typing with just one finger on my left hand is irritating... Need more practice with the right hand going forward. The Snow peas were great to go with the Ham dinner on Christmas. Lot's of green tomatoes on the vines but none ripening yet. Temps have stayed above 36 degrees here so hope yet that we will get some ripe ones before frost sets in. I'll post some photos when I am able to get in the garden again. Raybo ![]() |
