You guys have had a great summer there this year.
let's hope it is the same next year. As for up north where I work is is horrible. The snow just melted for one more time. For the last two weeks it snowed every day. Poor ducks and geese. I showed your tomatoes to your fellow Wasillaeans and they just grumbled. Jealous devils. What you are doing is what I have been telling them to do to some extent. Worth |

I'm growing both of these side-by-side this year for the first time. The RL plant is much taller than the PL plants so far, although they're all still under 30". Did you notice any height difference between the RL and PL versions?

Kath, the PL vwesion is dominating the RL in size and the amount of fruit set too, they are both in the same container, so that may be a factor because of space. I just wonder how it is going to taste, I have harvested a few off of the PL plants and they are right there with Sudduth's and Cowlick's, I also have had several Pruden's Purples and do not think they are as complex in taste, good though.
Worth, has anyone ever grew a tomato in a container up north of the Brooks? We are having another super summer, but we deserve it for dealing with the long cold and dark winters. Last edited by AKmark; June 7, 2014 at 12:20 AM. |

Brandywines keep coming
The pretty pink tomatoes are Cowlick's the large tomato is Sudduth's (1.8lbs). I had to pick the large tomato alittle early because it developed a bruise from pushing against another tomato to hard, I was horrified when I saw it about the size of a dime.
I have also lost a few because of dead leaf matter resting on them. I think I have too many plants in the greenhouse, and moisture ,caused from temp fluctuations during the day and night, on the surface of plant matter, is not evaporating during the day. I have lost a couple of tomatoes to this too. Today the shears come out, and the compost bin grows, all part of the process I guess. |

Both of these are very good producers, what fun varieties to grow, and both of them tastes good, the best part.

Yay for the rosovyi myod!! That is a beaut. I have it growing this year too but I expect nothing that size from mine. But it sure shows they are capable of getting to be big! I need some of that ildi seed next year! It's now on my list

Fruits
Karen, Ildi is a conversation piece, and I love to munch them on hot summer days, thirst quenchers.
Bower, thanks, I just post pics, so other far north gardeners can see first hand that tomatoes do just fine, if you fix the environment up a little. Picked a 1.99lbs NAR today in the pic with Rozovyi Myod, the NAR is the ugly one. We ate a Delicious today, mmm, mmmmm, will touch base on that in a few days. These are going to be spaghetti sauce in about 5 hours. Last edited by AKmark; June 21, 2014 at 04:41 PM. |
