That is too bad. Yes around me the largest grower already has been done planting all their pots and they have been out there growing for at least a couple of weeks. So counting back, including shipping time and planting time, they must have ordered them at least 3-4 weeks ago. They plant over 1000 pots each year from plugs.

Thanks for the heads up! I had given up on those, because the ship date was two days ago. It took all day, and I think I talked to every employee they have, but they still had them and 400 pot mums are being packed for me right now and going out today.
100 of these: 100 of these: And 35 each of these: \ |

I just returned from a trip to my local big box retailer. They had a big bench of mums out in their garden center already for a very attractive price...and most of them I saw were infested with spider mites. The bench was one giant web.

Good call, Carolyn, and glad you got the mums, Cole. Some of those pictures look so pretty. Love the white ones and the ones just touched with purple.

It's Mumapalooza 2018 - The year that went entirely to pot.
Everyone is at least out of the plug trays and transplanted into either a trade gallon or a 4" sheet pot. |

I am already battling aphids again. They seem to love mums
I sprayed spinosad last night, then read today that it doesnt really work on aphids. I ordered neem oil, which will arrive in about a week. Tonight they got a spray of DE, permethrin, and dawn. I looked up the chemical route and it is neonicotinoids, which are supposed to be toxic to bees. I have a bee hive next to the greenhouse, so I am reluctant to use them. |

well, actually the lady bugs will clean up the mums in no time at all. I put one lady bug on my petunia planter and that was about three days ago... today I see hardly any aphids on it. I read the other day one lady bug per aphid colony... go scout for a few of them and put them on the plants. you will be amazed at how fast the lady bugs clean them up. I couldn't get ahead of the aphids on my pansies a few years ago and went to get ladybugs... the aphids were gone in a few days.

I am not a fan of neem oil. I just don't see any benefit in it. it appears to me that they use it like a bath. you need to add insecticidal soap to it, too.
