Here is what we are hearing about Orange Jazz.

1. Fantastic texture and flavor.

2. Very susceptible to both Early Blight and Septoria, at least in some places (including my field).
That is a little worrisome considering my climate, but still excited to see how they do.

Default Excellent germination rates!!!

I received the Kickstarter seeds for the fall planting on 9/14.

I planted 5 of the varieties, 3 seeds each:

Orange Jazz, Jazz, Maglia Rose, Spike, Orange Caprese.

At day 4, 14 of the 15 seeds I sowed have germinated. Still waiting for one more Spike.

This is incredible germination and I'm so excited.

Held off on planting Yellow Jazz, and the 2 Fire Tomatoes were not ready yet.

----
DAY 5:
Was bringing out the cell pack this AM to give it sun, and the last Spike was peeking through this morning;

Also, 4 of 4 peppers that Fred sent along were also peeking through.

That is 100% GERMINATION RATE in 5 days.

I have seen pictures of Orange Jazz and Spike, and I've grown Maglia Rosa for a couple of years, but I have not seen a picture or description for the others. I would really like to see a description, or better yet, a picture of them. Does anyone know where such info could be had?

I took the plunge into the project just based on Fred's prior great work.

Thanks.

There are also photos and discussion of the varieties here.

I will be closing this group eventually -- probably sometime later this fall. But anyone is welcome to join in the mean-time.

While there are several places, some owned by our members here, who do offer some of Fred's varieties, not the latest ones not yet released, but almost all of them released to date, I think the best pictures and descriptions are to be had at.

Johnny's Selected Seeds
Tomato Growers Supply
Totally Tomatoes.

Carolyn, who followed your request about info about the "others"

Is there any way to still get involved with the kickstarter program or bottom level entry to these tomatoes? I am on a very tight budget but every time i see Fred's tomatoes , I really want to try them out. I know i am late to the game but was wondering if there was any more starter programs .

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

I am still taking collaborative membership sign-ups for a bit (at www.growartisan.com).

Also, Orange Jazz is now available at the same site.

I am in the process of packing seeds for collaborative members and kickstarter folks. Once I get all of the seeds packaged and sent off I will be 1) putting a number of other new varieties on our website, and 2) ending the signups for collaborative memberships.

Please feel free to PM me for specifics.

Mark, Fred has just answered you but I would ask which ones of the many varieties Fred has already released have you grown?

In post #99 here I noted that most are for sale at:

Johnny's Selected Seeds
Tomato Growers Supply
Totally Tomatoes

...... and many of the seed vendors who are here at Tville also sell seeds for them as well as some other commercial places.

And you can also ask for specific ones in the WANTED seed subforum here at Tville.

Hope that helps in terms of being concerned about money,as you noted above, and giving you some alternatives about trying some of Fred's already released varieties.

Carolyn

Good point Carolyn. Many of our cherry tomatoes are widely available. And that is probably the place to start anyway -- unless you crave an orange beefsteak, and then I would definitely suggest Orange Jazz too.

Thanks Fred and Carolyn.

I think i will get the artisan mix from totally tomatoes, seems like a great start. Will the artisan plums be available later this year ? I am just planting out now so I have about a year to gather my seeds for next year. Perhaps I should wait to see who has what in late Fall.
