Ninth recipient sounds impressive, until you learn that there's a grist mill in Vermont that's been using the same fruitcake as a millstone since the early 1700s.

Cheap fruitcake is like cheap sausage links, cheap ham and cheap bacon.
Not in price but highly processed and cheaply made.

Our stores in Texas have some of the very best in smoked sausage from local makers.
Yet I still see people reaching for the national brands for what ever reason.

Nothing goes with fruitcake like a good salty dried smoked sausage or a few slices of summer sausage and some cheese.
A meal in itself.

Craig, I apologize. I was just being myself. I hope you understand.
1. Barb, not sure what you're saying. What would you like us to do differently?

2. Salt, I read all the threads in General Discussion (the ones that interested me) all the way back to the beginning. I don't see how your input has been anything but enhancing to TV. What do you mean when you say it was different before you? In what way?

Robert, I have no idea what you are talking about. Truly! You haven't hurt this site or anyone, for that matter. Your posts and presence are more than welcome and you add so much to the conversation here. We want you to be yourself. Please pm me if you have anything you want to discuss. You are a valued member here.

Nan, this area is a little different in that there are threads set up for certain topics. And I see the "Cheap Eaten" as kind of the off topic area if you will, in that folks talk about whatever they want. Rather than having multiple threads on what to do with sweet potatoes, for instance, I would like all sweet potato recipes in one thread. I think it makes it easier for someone to access what they are looking for. When Worth started this thread asking about who makes fruitcake, Friendship cake was brought up and that is fine.

The 4 fruitcakes are in the oven and now all I have to do is wait.
I have no idea what on earth they will turn out like.
I can say the batter was to my liking and licked every bit off my fingers.

Like fruitcake.

There is about two 1/2 cups flour one pound of butter 2 cups brown sugar a goodly dollop of black strap molasses 4 eggs teaspoon each backing powder and soda.
Spices nutmeg fresh ground cloves cinnamon allspice teaspoon each, plus what was in the booze soak.

The fruit was allowed to drain all morning.

They look really good Worth.

Barb, I'm just going through a lot of frustration and depression. I should not have posted post #108.

Here they are out of the oven at 250F a little over three hours later.
I also put two pans of water on the lower oven rack.

It's my fruitcake and I can try it if I want.
It is everything I wanted and more.
These puppies are going to be good in a couple of months.

That looks good. They wouldn't last a couple of months here. Test out a big warm slice with some kicked up eggnog!!!!
