Today was a perfect day to dig up and harvest the Purple Viking Potatoes. No rain, and it was a beautiful sunny day. The plants/vines had died back almost completely so it was time. I could not find my fork, so after looking everywhere, I gave up and I pulled up what was left of the plant and used my hands to dig all around and underneath. It was a lot of work, but, I ended up harvesting 39.4#. A nice haul for today. (When the hubby got home later he found the fork out in a field where he left it last.)

What a nice haul on your potatoes. It sure was a good days work. They look fantastic.

Your soil is beautiful as well, you must have worked hard on that too.

Don't beat the husband with the fork, just put him in the frying pan.

Has anyone planted and harvested Purple Viking before? I ordered through SSE, and the PV potatoes look more red than purple too me. This is my first year growing this variety. Most of the pictures I have seen of this variety are more purple in tone. Not sure if I have the right variety.

I should Patti..I should..

The soil has really good topsoil and lots of well rotted compost and goat and chicken manure.

The Lurley's Paste tomato vine is loaded with lovely, large fruit. I have picked at least 30 so far, and the vine still has close to 45 more fruit hanging on. Last season my LP did really well. The fruit make a lovely sauce. This is my favorite paste so far..

You really need to warn people when you go from dirt to bright flowers.
They almost put my eyes out.
