Those look really delicious. I have never understood the "keeping it for a couple of months" idea but I know that it's common. I would be eating them NOW.

Update - OK I Googled this topic about aging fruitcake and here is what I found. Most sites that talked about storage said that the objective was to keep the cake from drying out so they open the wrapping once a month and brush the cakes with a liquid like alcohol, maple syrup or simple (sugar) syrup.

Cakes do not spoil because they have so much sugar and the fruits are candied or otherwise dried to be deficient in moisture which can cause spoilage.

If the cakes have too much of the cake part and less fruit,or if the fruit is less dry, they are more prone to drying out or spoilage by pathogens.

Your fruitcakes look kind of cakey and delicious Worth. I would recommend wrapping them very tightly to keep out moisture and I would store them in the refrigerator if it were me.

Here is one link.

I let them sit out last night to dry some and it was really nice and firm.
Today I put more whiskey on them wrapped them up and in the cupboard.
The fruit soaked in alcohol for a week.
There is no water to speak of in the cake.
I didn't add any.
Also the reason I roasted the nuts.
Here they are.
I had to stop eating the darn thing.
Each week they will get another brushing of whiskey.

I have enough fruit and nuts left for another cake and will be making it maybe today too.
A BIG ROUND ONE.

After all that trouble I realized it will be upside down.
Oh yes it has a boat load of nuts too, just didn't take a pictuer.

I'm pretty sure this fruitcake weights around 10 pounds.
It is about twice as heavy as a 5 pound sack of flour.
And it didn't stick one bit.
Ten inches diameter four inches tall.

That's one humongous fruit cake! Maybe you should send a piece to each of us for, um testing.

Does anyone have any idea why I am having trouble viewing Worth's pictures again? It happens across devices, both on Safari on my phone and on an old version of windows on my desk top. I did just discover on the desk top, I can right click on the line starting with IMG and then click open in new tab, and sign in to TV again and then I can see them in the new tab. Still can't see them in the TV posting itself and I don't have the ability to right click on my phone since I don't use a mouse. But it is a pain in the butt, honestly. It happened once before for quite a long time then just went away one day. It is related to my account, the device or web hosting service he uses, a bug, or what? Is annoys me to no end that I can't figure out why it happens, lol.

I think it needs marzipan sidewalls.

I gave a slice of the square stuff to a young guy at work.
World's most picky eater.
He made a strange sound of sensual pleasure when he tasted it.

OMG they all just starting showing up again, lol! I wonder if maybe I am being logged out by my browsers and when I right clicked it asked my log in again and that is why they started showing up again. Going to experiment with this. Is it possible TV will let me see posts but not pictures unless I am signed in? Determined to figure this out, lol...

Ha! Figured it out! When I purposely signed out, the pictures went away again! Sign back in, there they are! So I usually leave a tab open on my browser with TV open. So I just go to the tab and click on new posts or whatever. I don't even pay attention to whether or not I am still signed in. Yay! I must not be very smart because it took me a looong time to figure that out, lol. Happy its resolved. Cakes look delicious, Worth!

Sue CT I click on the "remember me" box when signing in to TV and then I close TV when I am done reading. That keeps me signed in. I don't keep any tabs open and I shut down my computer every night. When I open the TV site I am still signed in. I can see the pictures fine.

I came home and smelled the fruitcakes and wanted to cut into the big one so bad.
But I'm saving it for Christmas.

Thanks for the complements.
Maybe a Black Forest cake will be in the future.
Lord knows I love kirschwasser and I love Black Forest cakes
