Ok thanks

80 cherry varieties...lol you'd have to be insane to want to grow that many

And I understand the mystery part much better now, that sounds really fun.

So say I have like 500 Indian Stripe PL seeds that I will never be able to use, leftover after the swaps. If I contribute them do you think enough people would want them to use them up? Just trying to figure out what to do with all the seeds I saved this year, trades barely put a dent in them and I can only plant on 1/2 acre.

Indian Stripe PL would be a perfect contribution. The few packs that came in last year went out quickly. Blacks are just about the most popular category, and any tomato that is the PL version of a RL is even more popular.

My only question is do you want to make ~50 packs of ~10 seeds each, or send them bulk to me? Sending them to me bulk, early, is not a problem as long as they are fully DRY. Sending them bulk in October, would be a problem.

Not to change any rules, but would it be possible to have the minimum amount of seeds at 10 instead of 5? I planted all of the Guido last year and got 1 to germinate. This next year I'm hoping to plant 3-4 of each variety, only doing maybe 10-12 varieties instead of the usual 25. I also have a few more people who'd like to try heirlooms. Thanks.

And a definite YES to Indian Stripe.

Generally packs have had closer to 10, or maybe a few more. Last year, I made a poor calculation on bonuses, and then to correct that split up a lot of packs down to 5 seeds. Hopefully that won't happen again, and if people read your post, they might put 10 or more in a pack.

I'm thinking the best solution is to keep the minimum the same. Anyone who would like/need 10 or more seeds of any varieties may request more than one pack of a variety on their wish list.

Ok. Sounds like a reasonable way to acquire seeds.

Tormato, when I read about the person sending in all those Sungold seeds, it made me think about other hybrid seeds and the swap. (Just F1s) This year, I don't have any extra money, but in years to come, I should be able to send in seeds of some favorite F1s. If others could do the same, maybe adding an F1 hybrid category to the swap list? Just a thought.

Maybe. But over the past swaps, ~99% of the F1/hybrid requests are for SunGold.

Since people are saving seeds now, I'll post a rough outline for seed packs. I'll be posting this again when starting the 2015 MMMM thread.

At a minimum, each pack (5-10 seeds) should have the variety name (Tatiana's Tomatobase is a good reference for correct spelling) and the year harvested. An example...

KBX 2015

(or KBX '15)

When listing varieties for the categories on your send-in list, it would be nice for a one time further description of that variety. This would consist of...

variety name,
harvest year,
plant type (indeterminate, determinate, dwarf indeterminate, etc...),
leaf type (regular leaf, potato leaf, etc...),
fruit color (red, pink, black, etc...),
fruit size (ounces/pounds, or diameter in inches, etc...),
fruit type (beefsteak, cherry, heart, etc...),
and flavor {very subjective} ( sweet, balanced/tangy, tart, flavorful, moderate, bland, etc...). An example...

Aunt Ginny's Purple 2015 - Ind., PL, pink, 1 lb+, beefsteak, sweet and flavorful.

I'm adding, that hopefully the seed you are saving appears to be true to the description of that variety. If in doubt, we can discuss that.

2,000 SunGold seeds arrived yesterday.
It's time to start packing them in their zip-baggies,
and get ready to start the 2015 MMMM thread next week.

Hooray! I am so glad that they have arrived safe and sound, and that SunGold will make it to the swap.
