For fresh cut and sampling, they just need to set rules instead of a blanket ban.

Maximum 2 hours at uncontrolled ambient temperature (40°F to 84°F).

Maximum 1 hour at uncontrolled high temperature (85°F to 140°F).

Single-use knives or knives used for vegetables/fruit only and sterilized with alcohol swab between each use.

And I commisserate about the 'processing' of drying peppers, making preserves, etc. Why should individuals be burdened with the need for a $10k+ certified kitchen when it is the million dollar mega-conglomerates who have caused all the food safety scares and NOT mom-and-pop operations?

I dont think we need to be in the biz of "educating" customers. Who likes to be considered stupid, and needs educating on what they are going to eat? Nobody I know...

As for the Walmart reference, there is one right around the corner from the market where we are. About 4 bucks for 10.5oz of grape tomatoes. I love them! Wally World helps our sales, and the higher they price stuff the better for all of us local growers.

Also, aint none of us going to beat city hall by fighting with local governments on food sampling issues. Think about it folks, they allow us to set up and sell.

Next market tomorrow... I'll holler!

Try more like $110k. That's what it just cost to remodel the commercial kitchen at work to bring it into compliance with today's code requirements!

I respectfully disagree. If anyone wants to follow up with their local government to change those rules, let me know. That is in some sense my profession - convincing governments to do economically sensible things (yes, difficult work).

Everybody is getting along too good right now Scott. Kinda fun actually, and the county is making it a real user friendly deal, which is also nice.

Sometimes, I think its ok when everything is going ok... If that makes sense..

Sure Chuck, it's the Richmond Farmers Market, HWY 90 and 2nd St. Between the courthouse and river. Wed from 9-1, and Friday from 3:30 to 7. Love for you to come by!

thanks for that info.......I may get over there this week........
the north side of town desperately needs a good farmers market....
Tomball has one 2 times a month but only about 8-10 vendors go
there and most dont even sell vegetables........
Magnolia has one on the 2nd and 4th weekends of the month
and its the same thing there, very little to offer.......
