Default 2013 Plant Swap

Once again it’s time to announce the CHOPTAG Spring Plant Swap meeting.

This year’s event will be held on May 5th from noon to 3pm at the new home of Tony and Amy Powell located in Northern Kentucky.

The theory is to bring your extra plants and give away more than you accept. That never seems to work for me.

But if you don’t have any plants to trade you’re still invited. You can easily make up for the lack of plants by bringing food! As we get closer to May 5th and you know what extra plants you’ll have post a list here and people can get a sense of what will be available. People have been known to reserve plants so post early and post often.

Remember that EVERYONE is welcome.

Amy's address is 2043 Moffett Rd. Independence, KY. 41051. Looks like it is just off KY 17 in Independence. I'll leave the actual directions to each of you.

Woot Woot woot. I'm putting May 5 on my calendar. I'm hoping to talk some of my tomato/garden friends into this too. The tasting fest was my first time with you wonderful CHOPTAG folks and I can hardly wait!

I had a bit of a setback this year. I got into a fight with a table saw and had a pretty bad hand injury. I’m healing OK but everything takes me two or three times longer to do. I did manage to get some seedlings potted up and here is what I’ll have available for the Plant Swap. I only have 1 or at the most 2 of each available so get your order in early.
Aker's West Virginia
Big Rainbow
Brandywine, Quisenbury
Carbon
Cherokee Chocolate
Dixie Golden Giant
Eva Purple Ball
Great White
Italian Sweet - out
Japanese Black Trifele
KBX
Kellogg's Breakfast
Lillian's Yellow Heirloom
Mark Twain
Mennonite Orange
Red Bird
San Marzano
Taxi
Thai Pink Egg
Tiffen Mennonite
Vinson Watts
Winsall
Yellow Brandywine

Sorry to hear about your accident. My father-in-law got in that same fight a few years ago, and he lost too. Glad you are recovering and able to get back to some things you love.

If they are still available, I would love to have a Vinson Watts and an Italian Sweet plant.

Thanks!
Tim

After I promised Tim the plants he requested I went back to update my plant count and realized I didn’t start any Black Cherry this year. So if anyone has an extra BC I’d like to have one.

Hege German Pink
Henderson's Winsall (this one is iffy. 0% germination last year)

I should be able to cover you on the Black Cherry. Hope your hand heals up quickly.

This is my list, sorry it's not alphabetized. I am getting ready to pot up, and I see some have no or little germination, not many but a few. Let me know asap if there is anything you would like, otherwise I won't pot it up, it will be culled. I didn't hit my goal of only 100 varieties this year, but at least its less than half the 600 or so varieties I had less year.

Hey Lurley,
As usual you have a great list. I’m not sure I need anything right now. I’m also sure that I’ll be forced to take a few home with me at the Plant Swap.

I've had poor germination results this year, especially with peppers, so if anyone has an extra pepper seedling or two, I'd be happy to take them off your hands at the swap.

I'll only have a couple extra tomatoes due to this as well, but I'll bring what I've got.
