compost pile baby
My compost pile sprouted several tom plants early last summer. I let them go b/c they were so healthy looking I couldn't bear to tear them out! They survived two sprayings of lethal something - minimal damage anyway - and mostly I forgot to water them. Quite a few set late and I found two before the frost - yellow orange with neon orange insides and very tasty. I haven't grown yellow or orange toms for at least ten years. They look almost beefsteak size and inside color like Earl of Edgecomb. All my vines go to the garbage can and not the compost pile. any thoughts? I have saved seeds and will do a grow out next spring. I realize it could be anything since I am plagued with squirrels. Piegirl

Any photos of the volunteers?

sorry Ruth no photos. I am saving seeds for a grow out next year - thought they were unusual since all my volunteers have always been red and usually really bad tasting. No one else in the immediate area is gardening. Piegirl
