It is oil based so it probably effects the leaves ability to transpire. Kinda like with boxers not using vasaline much anymore as it makes their body over heat.

Just a note, Take Down Garden Spray is exactly the same product as Pyola, which is sold by Gardens Alive! Both are sold under a license of W. Neudorff GmbH KG, Germany. You'll find the precautions for Pyola are exactly the same as those for TDGS.
Espoma Organic Earth-Tone Insect Control is also the same product but sold in diluted form in a spray bottle.

I agree with Suze on the preventative effects of seaweed. I have had better results with 2oz. per gallon instead of 1oz. I think the higher concentration works.

Suze, have you found Take down spray locally? I have not located any yet, and was trying to avoid the shipping?

Here are 2 products from Neudorff that Ray was talking about. Ami

Spruzit ® Pest free

4.59 g / l pyrethrins corresponds to 18.36 g / l natural pyrethrum, 825.3 g / l rape seed oil

Raptol ® insect spray

0.05 g / l pyrethrins equivalent to 0.2 g / l natural pyrethrum, 8.25 g / l rape seed oil

The one downside to living in a perfect climate is that the climate happens to be in Africa where sadly little or none of the brands mentioned in this forum are available.

We do, however, have seaweed extract which I plan to use regularly. In this regard, how often should one use this extract? (Ours notes that you mix it in 5ml to 1l, but also notes that it doesn't really matter as it is not possible to overdose.)

[kelp extract]Probably about every two weeks until flowers appear,
then maybe monthly after that. It probably does not really need it
after that for the nutrients, meaning that the plants will not be deficient
in anything that they need to grow without it, but seaweed is said
to increase the plants' tolerance to stress in general. In places with
hot summers, that little extra tolerance to heat stress could improve
your harvest and reduce their susceptibility to diseases that attack
stressed plants with some gusto.
