Default No Q, U, or X

I finally went through all our tomato seed packs and put them in alphabetic order. I found that we have only 2 varieties each starting with the letters F and N - and no varieties starting with Q, U, and X. So for the fun of it, I looked online for tomatoes starting with Q, U, and X. Along the way, I found this site: https://myfolia.com/plants/10-tomato...eties?letter=X

Sadly, none starting with X - on that site anyway.

Have you grown any tomatoes starting with a Q, U, or X?

Hasn't Marsha mentioned a variety called Xandu? I couldn't find it in a search, though.

I'm thinking I know of one.
I'm thinking it came from China dating from the time of the first opium war in 1839 -1842.
Len Zexu and his exile to the Xinjiang region comes to mind.
Along with the opium pipes and opium he confiscated and destroyed he also came across some tomatoes from which he took to Xinjiang.
Upon his return and rehabilitation in he brought them back.along with seeds.
The tomato is named for the region from which he first grew them, the Xinjiang tomato.

Could it have been spelled with a z?

Xanadu sounds familiar to me, too, in connection with Marsha. For what it's worth.

Then there is the rare Yamamoto tomato.

Yamamoto

This variety was found floating in the ocean near where Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto was shot down by a P-38 lightning during WW11.
It is said that the pilot of the fighter plane saw the Admiral his self toss the seeds out of the transport plane he was in right before it crashed in the south pacific.
A PBY was called in to retrieve the small floating canister thinking it was secrete war documents.
The seeds were brought home after the war and planted. The fruit is of a humble size but of a very robust flavor.
This is of a very striking red round variety.

Yes, but that's a temporary name until I get it stable and name it. Xanadu is part of the name of another website I frequent, and the working name until it is stable is Xanadu- Not Surpriz. This line had antho GWRs, puples with stripes such as mine too, some with antho, others like mine had no antho.
One of the GWRs is named now, Xanadu Picasso, and it is a beautiful, tasty work of art.

Uluru Ochre is on my grow list for next year. Tania lists it as superb in taste.

How exciting!!!! Is "superb" better than "outstanding" in Tania talk?
